ABOUT THE COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE CENTER (CAC):

CAC is the primary human services organization for Sandy Springs and Dunwoody neighbors that are facing financial hardships or unexpected emergencies. Founded in 1987, CAC prevents homelessness and alleviates hunger by providing basic needs assistance (food, clothing, and financial assistance) while continuously engaging clients to work towards greater self-sufficiency through classes, workshops, and other programs. CAC employs a team of ~20 full-time employees to direct our efforts, and coordinates over 400 community volunteers to fulfill its mission. With four operating sites, including satellite locations in Dunwoody and Sandy Springs, and over 6,000 clients yearly, CAC hopes to continue to expand its services to better serve our neighbors in need. 

JOB SUMMARY: 

This position fosters a culture of philanthropy within the Community Assistance Center, to ensure the organization’s culture, systems and procedures support resource and fund development. The Development Director leads and promotes development within the organization to all CAC internal and external constituents.  

The Development Director coordinates and implements strategies to develop donors at all levels to support the organization in annual, capital and eventually endowment fundraising programs. The Director continually refines and manages systems to acquire new donors and maintain and grow relationships with all current donors, including individuals, foundations, corporations, faith-based partners and others.  These systems include: donor management (research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship), gift processing and recognition programs. The Development Director maintains accountability and compliance standards for donors and funding sources.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Planning 

  • Provides critical input in strategic and operational planning and overall organizational positioning representing both internal and internal stakeholders and constituents.
  • Helps leadership identify and address organizational issues that challenge and support  immediate and sustainable fundraising.
  • Helps the Board Management Committee to assess ongoing criteria for board membership and helps identify specific candidates to aid on achievement of fundraising and other organizational goals
  • Evaluates external trends and constituents needs and ensures that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in alignment with the organization’s values, mission, vision and priorities which address client needs.
  • Initiates and manages an annual fundraising plan, including re-forecasts, to support the above with input from the CEO, staff, board and other appropriate constituents.
  • Recommends policy positions concerning fund development such as investment policies, endowment and planned giving policies, gift acceptance policies and donor research ethics policies.
  • Measures results to assess the effectiveness of all fundraising programs and appeals, and collaborates with the CEO, development committee(s) and board to make any necessary changes to drive higher performance.

Leadership and Management

  • Manages department of Resource Development including direction of work, development of specific performance goals and ongoing assessment of performance
  • Leads, coaches, trains and fully supports to the Board and development committee in all aspects of fundraising: including assigning each member a prospect portfolio, coordinating the right board teams to manage each major gift prospect, assisting in scheduling donor calls and all other activities to achieve target goals.
  • Continually inspires the team (both board and staff) toward the vision and funding goals to achieve with critical feedback.

Reporting

  • Informs the chief executive officer and volunteer leadership on the results and upcoming plans of the organization’s fund development program and on all important factors influencing it.
  • Reviews with CEO end of month financial reports and report results at the monthly board meeting
  • Ensures that all tools and technology available are leveraged to ensure accurate, timely tracking and required reports to the organization, donors, Board and others are sent on a timely basis and according to their deadlines
  • Sends additional reports of impact to donors not requiring such reports

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 7 years fundraising experience in a professional fundraising position with emphasis on major gifts
  • Baseline certification in fundraising, the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Professional) is preferred.
  • Proven ability to implement an inspiring vision and motivate others to reach ambitious goals in support of that vision.
  • Demonstrated success managing individuals and teams to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Success in this position requires excellent customer service, communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize last minute request and/or projects
