POSITION OVERVIEW

The Sr. Accountant is a highly motivated, self-directed strategic thinker who is proficient in the best practices of nonprofit financial practices and internal controls.  They support the CFO and Accounting Manager in the daily finance operations and accounting functions by ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial records and financial transactions. They compile financial data for statements of financial position, financial activity, and other financial reports.  They collaborate with Finance and other departments on various projects of high complexity as needed. The Sr. Accountant has no supervisory responsibilities.  The Sr. Accountant has significant opportunities to grow and develop as the organization continues to evolve.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports consolidated financial reporting; prepares consolidation entries and reports
  • Ensures compliance with FASB, US GAAP, UK GAAP (preferred), and GGF policies, including the ability to research regulation changes and adjust organizational practices as needed
  • Supports pooled fund reporting and analysis Perform accounts payable account coding, data entry and check preparation/wire transfer Support monthly expense reports and reconciliations of; grants with source system, AP subsidiary ledger to general ledger, cash advance, intra-organizational transfers Input general ledger account detail entries and adjustments Support processing wires in support of grantmaking and advisory board Maintains financial records on internal data storage systems Monthly actual to budget report preparation Support donor reporting. Provide financial reporting on an as-needed basis Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis as requested Assist with regulatory reporting (Form 990) and annual audit. Prepare annual audit work papers and assist on other audit requests as needed. As part of our organizational transformation work, each team member will actively participate in regular meetings to help shape the strategy and ways of working of our organization.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting, CPA or CMA preferred 3+ years’ experience in nonprofit and fund accounting management Experience with FASB and ASA nonprofit accounting standards Experience with US GAAP and UK GAAP (Preferred) Knowledge and experience with annual audit and 990 coordination with CPA as needed High proficiency in MS Excel, proficiency in MS Word and Outlook Meticulous with exceptionally strong follow-up and follow-through skills Excellent verbal/written communication skills (English) Ability to work and contribute to a cooperative team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA license
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Experience using QuickBooks Experience using Financial Edge (Blackbaud) Experience using data management application (Egnyte) Ability to set up automated systems and processes to gain organizational efficiencies

Location / Availability Requirements

  • Hybrid work model combining work from home (remote) and work once a week at Boulder, CO office Available to remote collaboration with GGF offices in Boulder, CO and London, UK
