Job Details

Job Title: Executive Director 

Reports to: Board of Directors through the Board Chair 

Status: Exempt 

Position Summary 

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, this position is responsible for managing staff and organizational operations; interpreting and implementing strategic policy; managing financial resources; and pursuing organizational excellence and outreach. 

Responsibilities 

This position is accountable to the Board of Directors for the following: 

  • Oversees the development and implementation of strategic plans 
  • Oversees the design and management of development, marketing and volunteer programs 
  • Oversees staff hiring, supervising, and performance management processes  
  • Oversees client management processes and plans 
  • Oversees contract and grant compliance  
  • Ensures overall organizational compliance with applicable laws, regulatory agencies, funding sources, and best practices 
  • Creates and implements systems to track and evaluate program progress and measure successes 
  • Directs the annual budget preparation process and recommends appropriate revisions 
  • Communicates with major donors, public officials, etc., to promote goals and objectives 
  • Creates and submits reports to the Board regarding programs, operations, and any external factors 
  • Serves on the Board as a nonvoting, ex-officio member 

Essential Functions 

  • 30%  Executive oversight, including long-term planning and evaluation, compliance with applicable laws, and overall organizational excellence 
  • 20% Program oversight, including ensuring 24-hour program coverage for clients with staff 
  • 20 % Resource development and related activities 
  • 10 % Staffing functions and oversight 
  • 10 %    Public relations and speaking 
  • 5 % Executive support of Board and Board Committees   
  • 5% Other duties as applicable 

Required Qualifications, Education, Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, nonprofit management, related field, or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred 
  • Proven executive director or senior management experience  
  • Experience with volunteer management, fund development and marketing preferred 

Competencies 

  • Nonprofit administration/management 
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills 
  • In-depth knowledge of financial management, and related reports 
  • Understanding of TCM’s vision, mission, and values 
  • Knowledge in the areas of substance abuse and housing, preferred 
  • Performance management and conflict resolution 
  • Highly ethical behavior 

Position Scope - Complexity and Scope of Responsibility 

  • Requires the ability to create a work environment in which employees function as a team to achieve the mission of the organization 
  • Requires the ability to manage demands and tasks simultaneously while maintaining an effective organization 
  • May frequently deal with largely undefined problems, issues, and/or parameters requiring capable problem-solving skills 
  • Requires the ability to consistently and judiciously deal with difficult, and at times stressful, situations 
  • Requires the ability to market to and communicate with key decision makers and supporters in the community on a regular basis 

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Safety Considerations  

  • Typically sitting at desk, standing or walking 
  • Frequent contact with community leaders in various settings 
  • Most typically in mildly quiet office space, occasional city driving, and/or community settings 
  • Frequent use of common office equipment 
  • Driver’s license and ready access to vehicle for regular use in organizational business 
  • Evening and weekend work required 

Supervision Received: 

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors through the Board Chair  

Supervision Exercised: 

The Executive Director is responsible for supervision of all employees
