Job Details
Position Summary:
The Revenue Specialist is responsible for managing the income recording function for the Human Rights Campaign, its Political Action Committee and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. This includes recording all revenue from multiple streams in the general ledger. As part of the financial team, the specialist actively participates in supporting the overall finance function, is responsible for ongoing documentation of the revenue process, suggesting and implementing appropriate internal controls, and updating revenue related policies and procedures.
PLEASE NOTE: This position is based out of our Washington, D.C. office and will require the Revenue Specialist to work in the office. This position is not fully work from home or remote eligible.
Income Processing:
- Make bank deposits using check scanning software. Take cash and miscellaneous checks to the bank for deposit.
- Download daily banking transactions into Excel.
- Enter daily deposit totals into HRC’s donor database; group donation batches into deposits for data integration to the general ledger (GL.)
- Verify the nightly integration imports from the donor database into the GL. Post the imported journal entries to the GL.
- Work with the Development Department to ensure that all income is properly communicated and recorded.
- Manage HRC’s seasonal event-related petty cash function by disbursing and collecting unspent petty cash.
- Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
- Record revenue with high level of accuracy. Consistently meet daily and monthly deadlines.
- Advise Finance leadership on any revenue-related issues.
Other:
- Maintain and improve internal controls related to revenue processing.
- Make recommendations to streamline processes and improve the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of revenue-related information.
- Help develop and update revenue-related policies and procedures.
- Understand Fund Accounting, NAV accounting software, and HRC’s membership database software and trouble-shoot problems.
- Prepare audit and tax schedules for annual audit and tax returns.
- Provide assistance to the Controller and perform related tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience) required. Minimum of 2 years in relevant work experience in Accounting or Business preferred.
- Non-profit accounting experience is a plus. Incumbent must demonstrate initiative in problem-solving, be able to communicate effectively to members of finance and other departments, meet regular and multiple deadlines, and be able to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills, required.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite and Google Apps (Gmail, Google Docs and Drive).
- Microsoft Dynamics NAV or similar accounting software experience is preferred. Personal interest in and commitment to LGBTQ+ rights required. Overtime at times is required.
All positions at the Human Rights Campaign and/or the Human Rights Campaign Foundation may require travel on a regular basis or periodically. Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
