ABOUT US:
The Community Assistance Center (CAC) is the primary human services organization for Sandy Springs and Dunwoody neighbors that are facing financial hardships or unexpected emergencies. Founded in 1987, CAC prevents homelessness and alleviates hunger by providing basic needs assistance while continuously engaging clients to work towards greater self-sufficiency. CAC employs a team of ~20 full-time employees to manage efforts, and coordinates the efforts of over 400 community volunteers to fulfill its mission. With four operating sites, including satellite locations in Dunwoody and South Sandy Springs, CAC hopes to continue to expand its services to better serve the 20,000 individuals living below the poverty line in Dunwoody and Sandy Springs.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Assistant Food Pantry Manager contributes to CAC’s mission by coordinating pantry efforts at our two branch locations (Dunwoody and South Sandy Springs) on alternating weekdays and some Saturdays. They are responsible for managing volunteers to, and also participating in, keeping a food inventory, restocking the pantry, and distributing food to clients. They also keep records and produce reports. The Assistant Food Pantry Manager reports to the Branch Manager and coordinates with the Food Pantry Manager, playing an integral role in feeding our neighbors in need.
A successful candidate possesses managerial skills, project management skills, manages their own time, keeps track of data, and interacts with staff, volunteers, and clients in a friendly, collaborative manner. Likely backgrounds include grocery store experience, inventory/stock experience, logistics experience, food service management experience, etc. This role is a customer-facing, management-style position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Food Pantry Operations

Assure stability by promoting a working environment that is rewarding to staff and volunteers
Help plan and manage food pantry inventory and maintain it in compliance with safe food guidelines
Monitor the quality and expiration date of food inventory
Ensure inventory turns over on a FIFO basis, reducing food waste
Coordinate daily organization of donated food items and incorporate into existing stock
Help to manage food cost efficiency, identify ways to increase efficiency, and fully utilize the food items ordered or donated
Maintain all temperature logs
Help coordinate food donation pickups and deliveries
Help plan and coordinate community food drives
Coordinate food delivery and distribution programs (including daily pantry distribution, weekly satellite pantries and seasonal programs)
Coordinate all food pantry equipment maintenance
Work with facility maintenance staff to keep the food pantry areas clean and organized, including waiting room, corridors, market, bathrooms, and processing area
Drive truck, van, and forklift as needed
Other duties as assigned by Food Program Manager or Programs Director, including but not limited to supporting CAC special programs and representing CAC at special events

Work continuously with Branch Manager to improve CAC food service to meet the needs of those experiencing food insecurity
Help Food Program Manager identify and address issues that challenge and support the Food Program
Participate in discussion of policy positions concerning the Food Pantry

Help train, place, coordinate and supervise pantry volunteers, interns, and work study students
Help identify, cultivate, and recruit food pantry volunteers and leadership
