Position Title: People Operations Manager

Position Location: CPD/A has offices in NYC and DC, but for this role, we will consider candidates who live outside our office areas but within the US. Preference for East-Coast based candidates.

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a People Operations Manager.

About CPD + CPDA

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We work with nearly 50 affiliates in over 30 states and Puerto Rico to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations that envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position:

The People Operations Manager will primarily support CPD/A’s hiring process, which includes creating and circulating job postings, preparing hiring managers for interviews, and driving new employee onboarding. This position will also have a significant role in maintaining personnel files, upholding obligations to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and evaluation processes for employees.

We estimate that successful candidates will have about 6 years of general administrative, operations, or HR experience, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not years of experience.

This position will report to the Director of Human Resources.

Primary Responsibilities

The People Operations Manager will:

  • Execute tasks relating to employee recruitment/onboarding, which includes, but is not limited to, working with hiring managers on hiring processes, scheduling onboarding meetings, gathering new hire documents, and relaying information about CPD/A to candidates; Maintain personnel files; Support the Director of Human Resources in administration of HR's obligations to the Collective Bargaining Agreement; Oversee and contribute to projects including, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, evaluations, and maintaining personnel files; Serve as an active member of CPD/A’s People + Culture team, which centers Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • About 2-3 years of general human resources experience. Familiarity with federal and state employment laws.  A commitment to confidentiality and discretion. Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to draft and edit job postings to clearly reflect job requirements and responsibilities.  Experience in a unionized workplace is a plus, but not required. A commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and a deep understanding of the challenges facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, communities of color, disabled people, LGBTQ+ folks, and people at the intersections of the above communities.

Salary and Benefits:

CPD/A is a unionized workplace.  This is a confidential position, not included in our bargaining unit. Salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years’ experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $65,000-$75,000.

We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 15 vacation days your first year, 10 sick days per year, 13 paid holidays per year, and contributions to individuals’ 401K plans.

CPD/A is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer and actively recruits people of color, womxn, individuals with disabilities, and members of the LGBTIQAA+ community.
