General Description
Planned Parenthood Votes is an independent expenditure political committee whose mission is to elect pro-reproductive rights and pro-abortion candidates at the federal levels.
Scale for Change, in partnership with Planned Parenthood Votes and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michgan is seeking a full time, temporary organizer to run a field program in target districts with the goal of building diverse volunteer teams to reach voters of color under 35 and turn them out to vote. This organizer will utilize traditional and non-traditional field organizing tactics to make deep relationships in the communities they aim to reach, recruit volunteers to engage in these tactics, and meet ambitious but realistic goals to win in key electoral districts.
Organizers will gain the following experience and be responsible for:
- Crafting and implementing independent expenditure campaign plans with the support of Michigan Planned Parenthood Votes and Planned Parenthood Votes staff
- Building deep & intentional relationships with the local community, organizations, and leaders to volunteer and turn out to vote for abortion rights champions in the 2022 midterm election
- Recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to participate in canvassing, campaign actions, and other community events
- Developing an understanding of how data is a vital component to track and analyze advocacy campaigns by using the Voter Activation Network to manage volunteer and voter data
- Managing logistics, planning, and implementation of phone banks, canvasses, and other volunteer and voter engagement efforts
Special qualifications include:
- Lived or working experience in Michigan. This may include but isn’t limited to: time spent or years residing, trusted partnerships with community members and organizations, past volunteer or paid organizing and field experience, or any similar connection to the area
- Ability to use personal stories to explain why you organize
- Successful experience recruiting new members to an organization
- Strong commitment to meeting deadlines and showing progress towards goals
- Curiosity around new ways of organizing, using data, and building infrastructure for a long-term movement
- Access to a vehicle (gas cards will be provided)
Ideal candidates will have experience with at least four of the following:
- Local organizing in the city where you are applying to work
- Holding self responsible to quantitative and qualitative goals
- At least one big campaign event or in your local community – as a volunteer or staff
- At least 1-2 years of volunteer or paid field organizing
- Leading canvasses or phone banks
- Working knowledge of Voter Activation Network, Excel, a computer language, or another tool for data management
- Workshop facilitation
- Knowledge of reproductive health issues
- Spanish or Arabic language proficiency preferred but not required
There is no formal education requirement for this position.
Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position with Scale for Change, with a weekly gross salary of $1,153.85. Full-time exempt employees are also eligible for a cell phone reimbursement of up to $75/month, and employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance. This is a short-term position with an expected end date of November 18, 2022.
