Job Description (Summary) 

Hands on Atlanta is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced development leader who shares our passion for service and our civic pride to serve as our next Director of Development. We're committed to building a dedicated team that reflects the diverse Atlanta community. This position reports directly to the CEO, manages a team of six, is a member of the senior leadership team and serves as a primary liaison to the Board of Directors.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the Director of Development, you will serve on the senior leadership team, driving development and execution of all fundraising related elements of the strategic plan. In partnership with the President/CEO and Board, you will execute a comprehensive fundraising plan that results in philanthropic and earned revenue of $4+ million annually. As a growth-oriented organization, it is expected that the amount of money raised each year will increase as you systematically and effectively strengthen our fundraising capacity.  

You will:  

  • Lead a 6-person Development Team; 
  • Lead the stewardship and cultivation of foundation relationships while supervising the submission of 60+ foundation and corporate grants annually; 
  • Spearhead the execution of Hands on Atlanta’s signature events [Hands On Atlanta Week; MLK Sunday Supper & Days of Service] including logistical details and securing of sponsorships; 
  • Direct individual giving campaigns and steward major donors; 
  • Manage the Corporate Impact Team to grow earned revenue through the execution of custom community service projects for corporate volunteers; 
  • In conjunction with the Committee Chair, manage the activities of the Board of Directors fundraising committee. 

Qualifications & Skills

  • 8+ years nonprofit fundraising experience; 2+ years team leadership preferred 
  • Experience supervising a diverse, high-performing team of full-time staff, contractors, board members and volunteers  
  • Experience securing major funding commitments and writing grants (6-figure and multi-year) 
  • Expertise working with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)  professionals and Fortune 500 companies on special events (volunteer service projects a plus) 
  • Strong network and experience working in the Atlanta community 
  • Ability to construct, articulate and implement a $4m+ strategic fundraising plan 
  • Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships 
  • Expertise in managing large-scale projects and special events  
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal 
  • Experience managing a donor database with accuracy and analyzing donor data/trends (Salesforce experience a plus) 
  • Experience representing an organization at external meetings, community events and speaking engagements
