Senior Accountant

Organization Type: Non-Profit, Faith-Based, 100+ Employees

Position Type: Full-Time; Salaried Exempt

Department: Operations

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Hours: 40+ hours per week; Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, with some occasional evening/weekend work required

Travel Requirements: Minimal; must have access to reliable transportation during work hours

Location: Administrative offices, visiting programs/locations as needed; Remote work on Fridays

 

Position Summary: The senior accountant is responsible for all Wellspring Living accounting activities,  providing leadership with conscientious oversight, proactive solutions, reliable productivity, and strategic contributions.

 

Core Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Accounting

  • Accurately and efficiently fulfill all responsibilities related to accounting policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Manage cash flow effectively, partnering with the Chief Financial Officer to recommend and execute strategic decisions
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and serve as the main point of contact for accounting activities; Ensure all state and federal laws and regulations regarding accounting practices are closely followed and continuously executed.
  • Actively seek out creative ways to utilize accounting systems in a more efficient and  effective manner; Leverage technology through expertise in accounting systems and related organizational  systems or processes, including Salesforce.
  • Manage workload effectively to ensure all accounting deliverables are met in a timely  manner; Issue invoices and payments within established timelines; Reconcile monthly expenses within established timelines, partnering with staff to ensure a  smooth process.
  • Maintain the general ledger and other records of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax  liability, and financial activities.
  • Participate in building annual budgets and quarterly budget reviews; Manage closeout for each fiscal year and facilitate effective annual internal audits.

Reporting

  • Prepare budget reports on a quarterly and annual basis, and as requested; Actively support reporting requirements related to grants and other funding sources.
  • Regularly compile and interpret financial data, records, and statements for various requests from the Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, and Board Members.
  • Adhere to all relevant guidelines and government regulations related to accounting and  finance reporting practices, and promote compliance across the organization.
  • Support special projects related to finance and accounting. 

Financial Liaison

  • Work closely with all leaders and staff financial leads on finance and accounting processes,  procedures, and activities.
  • Support training efforts for staff and other stakeholder groups related to finance and  accounting practices.
  • Provide the Chief Financial Officer with regular updates on budget, reporting, and other financial  activities.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of office procedures and data processing codes and systems High proficiency with relevant technologies including Google Drive suite, Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), and QuickBooks Online
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting, finance, non-profit management,  business, or a related field Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably for a nonprofit organization  
  • Never have been shown by credible evidence (e.g., a court or jury, a department investigation, or other reliable evidence) to have abused, neglected, sexually exploited, or deprived a child or adult or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of  intentional or grossly serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent  misconduct, as evidenced by an oral or written statement to this effect obtained at the time of application and evidence of having made efforts to obtain and evaluate references from previous employers
  • Satisfactory criminal history background check and clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift objects up to 25 pounds and have the ability to work for long periods at a computer
  • Willingness to pursue and participate in continuing education to stay up to date on best  practices and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Documentation of references (at least two professional and one personal) that attest to the  person’s capability of performing the duties of the position and to the person’s suitability of  working with or around children and vulnerable populations
