This role is an integral part of a 14-person foundation relations team, which raises approximately one-quarter of Earthjustice’s contributed revenue. The team has grown and evolved tremendously in the last 5 years and is now in a new phase of growth, organized by functional expertise. The fundraisers on the team are supported by a writing team as well as a systems and operations team.

The Foundations Associate works under the supervision of the Associate Director of Foundation Relations to help the entire Foundations Team with data hygiene, systems and operations. This position requires a self‐starter who is able to work both collaboratively and independently and possesses strong interpersonal skills. The position requires excellent data entry and project management skills, diplomacy and discretion, and the ability to adapt and think creatively.

The Foundations Associate must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and be highly detail‐oriented.

This position performs a variety of foundation support tasks, including copy-editing assignments, help with writing Board and other reports and donor relations and database tasks such as funder acknowledgements and data updates and queries. It requires frequent interaction with staff members within the organization.

This role can be based in the San Francisco, CA office or Remote from the US. 

Responsibilities

Data entry and Hygiene, 50%

  • Enter the majority of the Foundation team’s data into BBEC including but not limited to: Plans, opportunities, activities, moves, contact reports and grant agreements.
  • Support Associate Director with regular projects like portfolio rebalance reviews, prospect assignments and maintain data hygiene.
  • Participate in department and organizational work teams and projects, as needed.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Systems and Operations support 40%

  • Support the Associate Director for Foundations Data, Systems, and operations in setting up new systems to support the team.
  • Provide administrative support to the team including travel, meeting scheduling, and other forms of support, as needed. (Move to next section, sys. ops. support)
  • Document policies and procedures for the team as they are developed.
  • Assist with reports, mailings of proposal documents, reports, and annual reports.
  • Assist with submission of research requests.

Research and Writing 10%

  • Assist with proposal and report development and submission for Foundation Officers as needed.

  • Elevate and build capacity of partner organizations by supporting them in their organizational journeys, elevating their work with Foundations as appropriate and assisting them in securing access to philanthropic resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of two years relevant experience, or Associate’s degree plus a minimum of five years of relevant experience required.
  • Two years’ experience in fundraising, editing, or an executive setting preferred.
  • Exemplary organizational skills including ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritize assignments.
  • Superior communication skills, including demonstrated experience writing effective correspondence.
  • Meticulous attention to detail including excellent proofreading and copy-editing skills.
  • Professional, positive, and approachable attitude. Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of people including donors, volunteers, the public, and staff.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Database management skills required with ability to produce reports and to use advanced functions, including sophisticated knowledge of the Internet.
  • Working knowledge of a constituent relationship management (CRM) system or donor database such as the Raiser’s Edge or Blackbaud eCRM is preferred.
  • Ability to use discretion and diplomacy in dealing with donors, colleagues, and confidential litigation information.
  • Background and/or interest in environmental issues preferred.
  • Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations.
  • Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences.

Salary is based on experience and location.

Salary range in San Francisco, CA:  $61,600 - $68,400

Salary range for remote (within the US):  $52,400 - $68,400

*A more specific range based on location will be given to candidates who move forward in the hiring process.
