The National Center for Civil and Human Rights (The Center) is an engaging cultural center located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, which connects the American Civil Rights Movement to today’s ongoing struggle for human rights.  The Center is seeking a Program Coordinator to support our Truth + Transformation Initiative, which seeks to help the broader Atlanta community engage honestly with American history, in particular about racial violence, through memorialization, commemoration, public education, curricular materials, and civic engagement.

 

Role Summary

The T + T Program Coordinator works closely with the Director of T + T in support of success of the initiatives several programs, projects and goals.  To be successful in this role, one must have a passion for the mission, core values and vision of The Center, with a demonstrated interest in engaging with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and perspectives.  The right candidate will be comfortable navigating multiple tasks and competing priorities due to strong project and time management skills.  This is a hybrid in-office / remote work opportunity.

Reports To:  DJ Sims, Director of Truth + Transformation Initiative

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with T + T Director to improve and strengthen processes for partner engagement and collaborations
  • Conduct outreach across the city and beyond to engage new organizations and community leaders in the initiative
  • Prioritize and establish protocols to ensure engagement and membership of most-impacted communities
  • Identify and lead efforts to advance advocacy and public education activities
  • Collaborate and coordinate in the design and implementation of programs and resources for a wide range of audiences
  • Support the initiative in planning and executing logistics of meetings, programs and events as determined by the T + T Director
  • Conduct research, gather and evaluate data related to initiative subject matter; develop program quality control systems
  • Manage administrative tasks including co-planning and co-facilitating monthly partner meetings, project team meetings
  • Write materials and collateral to support initiative programs and events
  • Work with colleagues to ensure website and presentation materials for the initiative are kept current and at quality standards
  • Develop process and records to document program activities
  • Conduct administrative and operational activities on behalf of the initiative to ensure strategic goals are met
  • Assist in fundraising goals, including providing program-specific content for grant and sponsorship proposals and reports
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Core Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Two or more years’ experience supporting programs utilizing project management skills
  • Operates within anti-racist frameworks when approaching tasks, community, and colleagues
  • Highly organized with strong administrative skills and attention to detail
  • Community organizing experience
  • Experience or familiarity with community advocacy at the state and local level in Georgia
  • Ability to work collaboratively and bridge the gap with partners with a diverse range of ideological approaches
  • Ability to complete tasks independently and self-directed, while staying regularly connected with the Director and other colleagues to ensure consistency
  • Strategic thinker with excellent research, prioritization, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to think ‘big picture’ as well as translate ideas into realistic, actionable plans
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ability to learn and utilize other commonly used business technology tools such Adobe, Slack, project management software, etc.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule based upon the needs of the organization and T+T initiative activities.  Occasional evening and weekend availability will be required
