The National Center for Civil and Human Rights (The Center) is an engaging cultural center located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, which connects the American Civil Rights Movement to today’s ongoing struggle for human rights. The Center is seeking an Institutional Giving Manager to manage our grant and sponsorship development work. The right candidate will have a passion for supporting mission-driven work, be detail-oriented, highly organized, with strong, demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

Position Summary

The Institutional Giving Manager, based in the Development department, works collaboratively across the organization to develop and implement The Center’s institutional funding strategy from corporate, philanthropic, and government donors. This work includes managing a portfolio of corporate, foundation and government donors and prospects, qualify funders and cultivate new gifts, and contribute to overall institutional giving goals. Responsible for writing and editing grant proposals and reports and documenting institutional relationships in the constituent database.  This role can be a hybrid in-office/remote work opportunity.

Reports To:  Director of Development

Responsibilities

  • Support goals of overall institutional giving program by preparing and writing corporate, foundation, government grant and sponsorship proposals, solicitations, letters of intent, and reports in accordance with funder guidelines 
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues to prepare proposals and reports, by writing, critiquing, editing, proofreading, and formatting for review by Director of Development and senior leadership, including the President and CEO
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of institutional donors and prospects. Effectively manage, cultivate, research, solicit, and steward funders, with emphasis on the ability to identify programs and initiatives that match the funder’s interests, develop/submit proposals, and report on deliverables
  • Work closely with internal program staff, collecting information from multiple departments to be used in corporate, foundation, government grant applications, proposals, reports, sponsorships, and onsite activations
  • Track revenue and produce monthly budget variance reports to ensure corporate, foundation, and government revenue goals are met
  • Manage calendar/deadlines and internal processes for submitting proposals and grant reports for all institutional donors
  • Implement donor recognition and sponsorship requirements and communicate fulfillment with external partners
  • Coordinate and support corporate/foundation priority programs and events such as onsite activations, corporate volunteer events, corporate/foundation cultivation events, exhibition donor receptions, and other NCCHR events involving institutional donors
  • Track activity and donor interaction of corporate, foundation, and government donors and prospects in records, files, and Altru database
  • Maintain partnership with marketing team for successful execution of sponsorship workflow across the organization
  • Other duties as assigned

Core Competencies 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Five+ years of demonstrated successful grant writing, sponsorship, or similar experience with a non-profit organization
  • Strong research, writing, editing, and verbal communication skills required 
  • Proficiency with CRM database systems; prior experience using Blackbaud’s Altru db a plus 
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office; working knowledge of other commonly used business technology tools such as Adobe
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner 
  • Customer service oriented, with the ability to exercise diplomacy and tact in dealing with both internal and external constituents and their requests 
  • Comfortable representing the organization confidently and professionally 
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, with the ability to prioritize independently and successfully meet the demands and deadlines of multiple projects 
  • A commitment to, and ability to effectively convey, the NCCHR mission with genuine passion, and the willingness to continually learn about NCCHR’s programs and mission

Physical Requirements
