Location

This is a remote position and could be based anywhere in Texas. Preference for Houston or Dallas/Fort Worth area. 

Job Overview

The Texas Senior Associate assists in building and cultivating a statewide organization of leaders in law enforcement, retired military, and business including mobilizing these messengers to support increased state and federal investments in programs and policies for children and youth that benefit public safety, national security, and our economy. This position will also play a significant role in managing and cultivating relationships with a variety of allied organizations.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Texas Senior Associate of Membership and Communications:

  • Manages the communication around broad policy goals and advocacy issues including earned-media campaigns, social media efforts, meetings with state policymakers and administration officials, newsletters, communications with our members, and other written materials, with support from the national communications team and Texas State Deputy Director. 

  • Helps to build our notoriety in the media through press releases, social media efforts, and editorials.

  • Recruits engage and mobilize prominent leaders in law enforcement, retired military, and business in key areas across that state, including conference attendance. 

  • Cultivates relationships with policymakers and the media to support the above duties and the CSA team. 

  • Participates in coalitions of stakeholders, particularly in early childhood policy.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Superior oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with the Texas media landscape.

  • Ability to persuade others to join a cause and take action as well as influence without authority.

  • Superior diplomatic skills and ability to work effectively with complex relationships.

  • Well-organized, able to work independently to achieve goals.

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once, respond rapidly and flexibly to changing priorities, and comfort with ambiguity.

  • Ability to persevere.

  • Experience working independently or remotely.

  • Adequate capacity to independently learn and work with Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Salesforce, and Google Suite.

  • Strong commitment to our mission and strategic vision.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of and contacts with states’ law enforcement, military, business, and the Texas Legislature.

  • Understanding the legislative process and advocacy strategies. 

Minimum experience required: 

At least 5 years of relevant, professional experience in communication and engagement.

Education:

College degree or equivalent experience required.

Travel:

Frequent travel is required within the state. Occasional travel is required out of state.

Duration: 1-4 days

Salary:

$60,000 - $70,000 per year plus benefits, commensurate with experience
