JOB SUMMARY

New Conservatory Theatre Center seeks a dynamic educator and theatre maker to join our established and innovative arts education program. You will oversee our Satellite Drama program and serve as the link between students, teaching artists, schools, and community partners. You will work closely with the Education Director to implement meaningful programming and opportunities for children and families of San Francisco. Under the umbrella of a professional theatre company, you will also become a part of a larger community that supports artists and each other.

The schedule will be Monday-Friday, 10 am-6 pm and attending 2-3 NCTC evening events per year. The location includes onsite at NCTC, site visits to schools, and occasional work-from-home. This position reports to our Education Director.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead teacher 
  • New teacher recruitment 
  • Observe and mentor teaching artists
  • Book classes at schools and manage teaching artist scheduling
  • Lead teaching artist trainings, professional development, and special events
  • Liaison between NCTC and school program directors, teachers, and PTO/PTA
  • Work with Education Administrator to organize and maintain a teaching artist training website
  • Maintain and nurture Drama Explorer curriculum
  • Work with EDU Director to develop new Drama Explorer & residency curriculum, including script materials
  • Identify and foster new partnerships in schools and the community
  • Assist with occasional Education program onsite events

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Experience teaching children grades K-8, particularly K-5
  • Expertise in leading trainings and managing teaching artists
  • Experience building skill-based curriculum and aligning with VAPA standards
  • Knowledge of SFUSD systems and practices
  • Understands contemporary issues facing educators, young people, and families
  • Collaborative, outgoing, communicative, inspirational, inclusive, and kind 
  • Commitment to theatre education as a transformative force in young people’s development
  • Highly efficient time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and comfortable learning new technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • College degree in Theatre or Education is preferred, but not mandatory
