About B Lab

B Lab’s newly-restructured Strategy department works closely with the Operations teams to manage the cultural, financial, and infrastructure that support B Lab Global to deliver on its objectives and meet the needs of a growing, globally distributed organization. Working closely with leadership and to ensure our operational strategies are aligned and enable teams to deliver effectively on our global vision. This includes designing practices, policies, and tools for financial health, employee wellness & engagement, effective operations, and risk management - all in alignment with our Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) principles. The department also collaborates with B Lab Global Partners to set the parameters and build accountability for our mutual responsibilities as a network leading the B Corp movement.
Given the multi-divisional, global structure of B Lab, coordination of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) efforts across the organization, the JEDI team operates as a sub-department of the Strategy department. As a shared service, the JEDI team functions org-wide to allow for better cohesion, visibility and consistency across B Lab Global  (BLG) teams and departmental division-specific work. Additionally, the team works amongst the Global and Local Partner Network to support JEDI work across regions and connect to the overall BLG JEDI strategies.

About the Opportunity

Working closely together with B Lab’s People and Culture team, the JEDI team develops and implements the initiatives and policies necessary to foster a positive and inclusive work environment. For nearly 4 year, the teams have pushed the work forward, adapting, developing and implementing more justice-centered policies and practices, along with a myriad of trainings and professional development opportunities.


Working alongside the Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion the Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Senior Associate & Program Specialist will assist in the implementation and development of proactive justice, equity, diversity & inclusion (JEDI) initiatives in support of B Lab’s mission and values. The JEDI Senior Associate & Program Specialist plays an important role to bolster passion for social justice, build relationship-building skills, and strengthen muscles in cultural competence, strategic planning, equitable problem solving, and inclusive communication.

The JEDI Senior Associate & Program Specialist will report to Ellonda Williams, Director of JEDI. This is a great role for someone with a background in program management who is seeking to deepen their experience with work on diversity, equity and inclusion matters or special interest in social justice. 

Here are the major objectives for the first 90 days:

  • Bolster activity and engagement for ERGs & Affinity Groups and develop annual engagement plans
  • Assist with editing and embedding JEDI into our job tiers with People & Culture
  • Assist with launch of the internal JEDI council
  • Develop JEDI comms plan
  • Hold focus groups to identify gaps and gather qualitative data; Assess data and make recommendations
  • Partner with B Lab Insights team to assess data, identify gaps and utilize for JEDI aspects of the JEDI Strategic Plan and informing the Global B Lab Network & Stakeholders
  • Begin development of a JEDI resource library and/or other supports for the Global B Lab Network & Stakeholders
  • Develop personal plan for the next 90-days

 

Core Responsibilities 

Cross-Divisional JEDI Support and Advisement [40%*]

  • Serve as an advocate, subject matter expert, and advisor to our teams and people managers on JEDI matters
  • Manage the internal, annual inclusion and engagement survey process
  • Network surveys on occasion
  • Plan and execute annual Wellness Week for staff
  • Inspires teams to innovate and operationalize justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion plans
  • Work with internal communications team for JEDI related communications
  • Manage JEDI Slack communications (ex. holidays, cultural events, global and local social justice topics)
  • Support teams as needed and respond to JEDI-related requests for advice and reviews
  • Occasionally attend Global network events to provide support on JEDI-related trainings or talks
  • Serve as an advocate, subject matter expert, and advisor to our teams and people managers on JEDI matters
    • Ability and willingness to travel (by car, air, train, or bus) domestically and internationally on occasion.

JEDI Strategic Implementation [20%*]

  • Support the Director of JEDI to Drive initiatives that activate our JEDI Strategic Plan and Pillars, including the design, development and implementation of work divisions
  • Collaborate with B Lab’s Insights Team to use data to embed JEDI into the employee, network and external community experience; tracking and creating requests for information for survey data related to diversity.
  • Research and remain current on internal and external activities in the organization that may impact JEDI programming and initiatives through cross-functional, global and external collaboration.

JEDI Program Management [20%*]

  • Track, organize and measure JEDI programming outcomes across the divisions at B Lab
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of tools and resources to drive and deliver on B Lab’s global JEDI strategy.
  • Manage B Lab’s Employee Resource and Affinity Group programming and Wellness Coaching Program.

About you

  • 3-5 years of experience managing programs with 2-3 years in a JEDI-related role
  • Must have an understanding and awareness of JEDI principles and how to apply them
  • Respect for diversity of identities and experiences; an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of business
  • Global mobility or agility and experience with aspects of business or JEDI outside of the United States preferred. 
  • Program management (including, ideating, implementation, follow-through and assessment)
  • Experience planning and prioritizing programs and projects while meeting organizational goals and maintaining accountability
  • Orientation toward solutions using substantial creativity, resourcefulness, innovation, negotiation, and diplomacy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required, with the ability to concisely communicate complex messages, inclusively (sharing information in a way that various people can understand, recognizing that people learn and express themselves in different ways).
  • Ability to earn and build influence across a matrixed organization; to initiate and drive projects and initiatives with a strong people-first framework
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • High degree of organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and multi-task with accuracy
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and translate analyses into insights and recommendations
  • Data-driven, using data to identify opportunities for improvement
  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending trainings, courses, or conferences, as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional applications or concepts as needed.

While not required the following would be a plus:

  • Experience with Google Suite preferred.
  • Global EDI Certification preferred
  • Empathy, self awareness, and curiosity

 

Compensation Details

B Lab has a competitive compensation plan that includes:

  • An annual salary in the range of $57,000 - $60,000
  • Excellent health benefits package including access to medical, vision and dental coverage
  • Paid time off for vacation - in your first year, you’ll start with 3 weeks (prorated in a to your start date)
  • 403(b) with a match of up to 3%
  • Unlimited sick and personal time - if you need it, use it
  • After your first year of employment, 40 hours paid time off for community service; paid parental leave; and time and budget for your professional development (we assess this PD budget annually)
