Job Details
Under the direction of the Development Director, the Sr. Grants Manager & Writer develops proposals, creates reports, and stewards relationships with foundation, corporate, government, religious, and civic partners for Our House. The Sr. Grants Manager & Writer also researches and proactively cultivates relationships with new institutional funders, in partnership with Our House’s leadership and development team.
Duties and Responsibilities
1) Implement an effective fundraising program focused on foundation, corporate, government, religious, and civic funders.
a. Work with Our House’s leadership and development team to create and implement annual and multi-year plans to increase revenue from foundation, corporate, government, religious, and civic funders.
b. Prepare and write grant proposals, applications and reports for government agencies and private and corporate foundations to secure funding for Our House’s general operations and programs.
c. Work collaboratively with program and finance staff to obtain content required to write narratives for proposals and reports, including the preparation of grant forms and the assembly of budgets and supporting materials.
d. Collaborate with program and finance staff to assure grant measurements and outcomes are monitored and Our House complies with all applicable local, state and federal grant requirements.
e. Research and identify new funding opportunities from foundations and religious and civic institutions.
f. Deepen existing relationships with key individuals at foundations, religious and civic institutions, and government agencies through site visits, personal notes and in-person meetings.
g. Work closely with the Community Engagement Manager to fully engage corporate volunteers and volunteers from faith-based organizations and solicit in-kind support from institutional funders.
h. Work with the Development Director to develop and distribute donor communications such as case statements, annual reports, and stewardship reports.
i. Collaborate with the CEO and Chief Development Officer to engage Board and Advisory Council Members in foundation, corporate, religious, and civic funder prospecting, cultivation, and solicitation. Help Our House’s leadership make appropriate connections, prepare for solicitation calls and follow-up, and monitor fundraising progress.
2) Develop accurate internal fundraising and programmatic reporting.
a. Work with the Development Director and Development Coordinator to monitor, report, and analyze fundraising streams and fundraising performance for internal reviews.
b. Work with Program Directors to develop systematic ways to track and report Our House programmatic information for donors, prospects, and development team members.
3) Serve as an integral member of the Our House development team.
a. Represent Our House in appropriate community forums.
b. Help sustain a culture of planning and of performance-based work and evaluation.
c. Ensure uniform and consistent use of Bloomerang for recording donor relationship and giving activities.
d. Stay abreast of key issues and trends in the homeless community and activities at Our House and help communicate these to donors and prospects.
e. Oversee the Grants Coordinator.
f. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree required
Experience: Minimum: 1 year of grant writing and reporting experience for a nonprofit organization
Preferred: 2 to 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and communications
Required Skills and Qualities:
• Excellent time management and organization skills
• Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
• Ability to multi-task independently with little supervision
• Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Excellent computer skills including intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
• Experience working with donor databases, such as Bloomerang
