Make the Road New York builds the power of immigrant and working class communities to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and survival services.  Make the Road NY operates neighborhood-based community centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn; Jackson Heights, Queens; Port Richmond, Staten Island, Brentwood, Long Island and White Plains, Westchester.  With a membership of more than 25,000 low-income New Yorkers, Make the Road tackles the critical issues facing our community: workplace justice, tenants’ rights, immigrant rights, language-access, LGBTQ justice, public education, health care access, and immigration reform. 

The Institutional Giving Manager helps to drive MRNY's institutional fundraising, particularly foundation fundraising. This person stewards foundation relationships and drafts reports and proposals. The person helps maintain and improve the department's records and systems for institutional funders. Depending on experience and interest, this person may also supervise one or two members of the institutional fundraising team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

1)  FOUNDATION GRANTS: Lead a portfolio of MRNY foundation grants from $15k - $200k/year. Handle all reporting, reapplications, site visits and relationship stewarding for these grants in concert with program directors and executive team members

2) NEW FUNDING: Identify and cultivate private funding prospects for MRNY and the family of organizations.

3) GRANT ADMIN/SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE: Help create and maintain Salesforce reports, maintain calendar of deadlines, ensure all deadlines for foundation and government grants are met.   

4) MATERIALS: Oversee periodic updates of one-pagers and other existing fundraising materials.  Support in creation of new materials as necessary.

5) GENERAL SUPPORT FOR DEPARTMENT: Support development / comms department in all-hands-on-deck moments such as the end-of-year fundraising blitz.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Eligible to work in the US 
  • Full vaccination with an FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine prior to first day of employment
  •  3+ years of comparable experience preferred
  • Strong writer
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to represent the organization to funders as well as interface with all levels of staff while maintaining flexibility, tact, and a positive attitude
  • Team player and a self-starter
  • Ability to handle lots of deadlines, prioritize, and complete assignments with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Commitment to social justice and experience working in an environment that prioritizes diversity, equity and inclusion

Salary range: $55,103 - $70,113
