AGENCY DESCRIPTION: Silence the Shame is a mental health education and awareness non-profit organization. Through the community conversations, compelling content and outreach programs, we aim to normalize the conversation, peel back the layers of shame, eliminate the stigma and provide support for mental wellbeing. We are committed to building programs to promote mental well-being through peer support and education. We strive to support youth development and leadership to reduce rates of suicide and mental crisis.

Silence the Shame is seeking a Programming Intern to assist with the day-to-day promotion and operations of various Silence the Shame programs including Soundtrack for Mental Health, College Ambassador Program, and other mental health initiatives. Applicant should have beginning knowledge in mental health, be detail oriented, and have experience in writing, general office skills, and internet research. Proficiency with graphic design programs a plus.

GENERAL INTERN SKILLS/RESOURCES REQUIRED:

Under the supervision of Silence the Shame’s Intern Coordinator (aka Operations Director), the intern should have the following skills/resources:

·      Interest about the health needs of vulnerable populations (e.g., mental health, homeless, etc.)

·      Beginning knowledgeable about mental health, substance abuse

·      Commit to at least 15-20 hours per week

·      A sharp eye for detail

·      Self-starter and be a quick learner

·      Be reliable, responsible and accountable

·      Be able to work independently & to multi-task

·      Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to communicate with diverse populations

·      Professional demeanor

·      Experience using Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

·      Well organized with attention to detail and ability to carry out tasks independently

·      Ability to meet deadlines

·      Public health/social justice interests

·      Intermediate to advanced organizational skills

·      Ability to manage multiple projects as needed

·      Able to work in fast paced environment at times

·      Participate weekly or monthly coordinating meetings

·      Minimal graphic design, but must be familiar with programs such as Canva and other related programs

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·      Establish long-term operational objectives, researching factors that may impact the success of the programs, and work with individuals or groups to research and document program requirements in order to provide appropriate input into the development of strategic plans.

·      Conducts research and gathers information to develop various publications.

·      Develops promotional materials which may include content for reports, briefings, newsletters, grants or other written information related to the program.

·      Assists in developing and coordinating program-related conferences, conventions, or meetings.
