Job Overview: The Elaine Clark Center, an inclusive program for children and young adults with special needs from 6 weeks to 25 years old, seeks a Director of Development.   We are seeking an experienced development professional who can help lead our organization into the future.  The Director of Development is responsible for working with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to develop and implement long-term development strategies to ensure the sustainability of the organization responsibilities to include: maintaining relationships with donors, writing and submitting grant proposals to both public and private foundations, as well as government agencies, coordinating marketing and communications for the program, coordinating development/fundraising events, and maintaining donor databases.   Position requires bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of development experience preferably with a non-profit agency. Candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, computer/database proficiency and multitasking abilities.  

Major Responsibilities: The Development Director works in close coordination with the Executive Director to achieve the following goals:

  • Resource development
  • Grant Writing for both public and private foundations and government agencies
  • Identify funding needs and create strategic plans to seek funding support for these needs.
  • Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan with specific and measurable goals and objectives
  • Oversee the preparation of letters of inquiry, proposals, budgets and reports to local foundations and other potential donors in coordination
  • Manage and develop the Fundraising & Communication Coordinator
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise development-related interns and volunteers, when appropriate.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with donors, volunteers, partner agencies, government officials, multi-cultural clients and colleagues on all levels. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment

Position Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree. Special interest in Nonprofit or Business Management, Public Policy, Social Work (macro focused), or similar fields of study; and/or equivalent experience.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years prior experience with leading development, fundraising, communications, public relations, and other development duties in the non-profit sector required
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong writing skills required

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality. Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated record of foundation and donor relations with successful development of private foundation grant proposals
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with donors, volunteers, partner agencies, government officials, multi-cultural clients and colleagues on all levels. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment
  • Experience coordinating multiple partners and consensus building toward common goal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet research
  • Strong organizational, leadership and team-building skills with ability to promote productivity and efficiency
