Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is seeking a Senior Individual Philanthropy Officer. This is a full-time position. PPNorCal provides a comprehensive benefits package including 100% employer paid medical insurance for the employee, 50% employer paid medical insurance for dependent children, dental and vision coverage, employer paid life and long-term disability insurance, 15 days of paid time off to start, 10 paid holidays, and a 403(b) retirement plan with 4% employer match.

The Senior Individual Philanthropy Officer (SIPO) has direct responsibility for managing a Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) portfolio of a minimum of 125 major donors and prospects, and 25-50 in the qualification stage within a specific inner Bay Area geographic territory. This SIPO territory includes San Francisco, Marin, and Sonoma Counties. In addition to developing long-term relationships with individual donors, the SIPO will be involved in cultivating deferred gifts through estate planning and other types of gifts as well as fundraising events. The SIPO also identifies and solicits prospective sponsorships, legacy, capital, and project-specific gifts within and outside of formal campaign structures. The position will activate highly motivated volunteers to increase our philanthropic presence in the territory. Additionally, the SIPO will develop strong relationships with San Francisco-based professional groups as we look to build our next generation of donors and reinforce our mid-level donor programs. This position works out of our San Francisco health center with occasional trips to our Concord Administrative Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Works under the guidance of the Vice President of Development to set goals and objectives to build and sustain a high level of individual significant gifts support for PPNorCal.
- Plans and implements the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of donors and prospects in the individual major gifts program for the assigned regions.
- Develops solicitation strategies that may include multiple philanthropic vehicles including working with other development staff to develop planned giving as a critical component of a strategic fundraising plan.
- Cultivates and solicits individual donors/prospects via in-person meetings and/or other forms of written and verbal communication.
- Collaborates with PPNorCal staff throughout the region to identify unique and appropriate opportunities to engage donors and fund core programs.
- Develops the annual work plan for their own portfolio and collaborates with other major gifts portfolios as needed.
- Collaborates with the major gifts/individual philanthropy team to determine appropriate relationship-building and revenue-generating events to engage prospects and donors, builds these into the plan for the region,
- Collaborates with the institutional team and program staff to seek gifts for operations, planned gifts, foundation gifts and other giving opportunities consistent with the organization’s strategic plan.
- Collaborates in the development of donor communications, online and offline, to engage and solicit major donors. Collaborates with other development staff on cultivation and stewardship activities, proposal development, site visits, special events, and campaigns.
- Prepares weekly activity updates for management.
- Ensures that prospect and donor information is recorded accurately in Raisers’ Edge and collaborates with the Operations team on systems, reports, and other infrastructure needs.
- Participates in departmental and interdepartmental workgroups as required.
- Actively participates in and support the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives of the organization.
- Demonstrated commitment to health equity & Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles. Strong networking/interpersonal relationship skills. Minimum of five years of experience in fund development. Familiarity with planned giving is desirable. Superior writing and verbal communication skills; excellent public speaking skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
- Ability to manage projects and tasks independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of flexibility and creativity within a constantly changing environment.
- Available to work occasional weekends and evenings.
- Knowledge of Bay Area philanthropic communities desired.

- Able to work well in a team environment.
- CFRE designation is helpful, but not required. Passion for Planned Parenthood Northern California’s mission.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and five years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write professional reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and other related fund development materials. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Experience with customer relations management (CRM) databases or donor databases required.
- Raiser’s Edge experience strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have reliable automobile transportation and a valid California Driver's License and insurance.
