The Director of Development is responsible for developing and executing the overall fundraising and development program for the organization.  The Director will develop the strategic plan for fundraising and development to build a sustainable and long-term approach and program.  The Director will lead the design and delivery of all aspects of a donor-centered fundraising program and is responsible for growing donated revenue. The position will also have the corporate responsibility for the management, oversight and creative direction of the marketing and communications (internal and external) program; to be executed by internal staff or consultant.  

Flexible Work location between office/home. Required to attend all Development events and meetings with prospective donors.

The goals for this position are:

  • Meet overall annual fundraising goals
  • Meet or exceed goals for growth of key metrics including donor acquisition, retention, loyalty and giving
  • Development and implementation of fundraising plan to grow support of current donors and acquisition of new donors
  • Lead the development and execution of all fundraising events (Currently, 3)
  • Development and implementation of a marketing and communications strategy and program leading to expanded services and patient care, increased individual and corporate donors, heightened Prevent Blindness Georgia brand awareness, and the increased awareness of the importance of eye health.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Development

  • Develops sustainable fundraising strategic plan and program Plans and executes a donor communication and solicitation plan with an emphasis on stewardship, accountability and creating a rewarding experience for donors at all levels
  • Ensures a high level of service for all donors and donor opportunities, including grant writing, progress reporting and timely and accurate gift acknowledgment
  • Develops structured analytics and reports to monitor and manage fundraising performance and routinely reports on same; manages fundraising software system and donor database
  • Ensures that data is managed responsibly, that donor privacy is protected, and that activity and gifts are recorded accurately and efficiently
  • Creates systems to support effective relationship management to help leadership staff, Board, and volunteers solicit gifts
  • Integrates ongoing prospect research and identification into regular operations and oversees the fulfillment of research requests to support major gifts
  • Analyzes donor trends to support the creation of reliable future revenue growth forecast
  • Oversees continuous process improvement to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the fundraising program
  • Remains current on best practices and implements new methods for fundraising
  • Represent the interests of donors to ensure their perspective is known and understood within the organization
  • Generates and presents reports for operations and Board level meetings

Proposal Management

  • Develop philanthropic proposals; completes the development, preparfation and submission of grant applications to generate funds for the organization.
  • Manages all aspects of the grant management process including researching, writing and submitting applications, as well as managing the reporting process.

External Communications & Branding

  • Provides leadership and oversight of the marketing and communications program and manages the staff or consultant to develop and execute on the plan and approach

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in professional fundraising and development, with a proven record of success implementing donor-centered strategies and cultivating sustainable revenue growth over time
  • Familiarity with a range of giving vehicles including annual giving, fundraising events, major capital and planned gifts, sponsorship and marketing partnerships
  • Results-oriented, motivated to meet or exceed individual and shared goals by carefully monitoring progress and demonstrating accountability through problem/resolution approach
  • Highly organized, strong attention to detail in order to produce the highest quality work, including follow up and follow through with process improvement philosophy
  • Work or life experience with diverse communities
  • Strong communications capabilities, both verbal and written, including grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Able to lead and inspire others and accurately represent Prevent Blindness Georgia’s mission and values
  • Able to take risks and challenge the status quo
  • Strong analytical skills: able to interpret and compare data to form meaningful insights
  • Occasional travel for donor visits
  • Donor database management system, Microsoft Suite, design software and social media platform experience

While performing this job employees may occasionally be required to talk, stand or sit for extended periods of time, walk, climb stairs, critical data, stoop, twist, bend, crawl, speak and hear. Employees must drive a motor vehicle and may be required to travel during business hours and overnight. He/She must also be able to move/lift up to 20 pounds.

Organization Description:

Founded in 1965, Prevent Blindness Georgia (PBGA) is the state affiliate of Prevent Blindness, the leading voluntary eye health organization dedicated to the prevention of blindness and the preservation of sight. Focusing on the delivery of services to some of the state’s poorest and most vulnerable residents, PBGA provides no-cost eye exams and corrective glasses for people of all ages.

Through an eye screening and public education program called Star Pupils™, PBGA provides vision screening for young Georgians in Title 1 Schools, lottery-funded pre-kindergartens, Head Starts, and public and private preschools. On the other end of the age spectrum, PBGA operates a Vision Outreach (VO) program which primarily involves temporary pop-up clinics throughout the state in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) as well other free health clinics and outreach centers serving the homeless, migrants, those in transitional housing, domestic violence centers, addiction recovery services, and centers affiliated with the Area Agency on Aging.
