About My Voice Music

My Voice Music (MVM) teaches youth ages 9-24 to write, record, and perform original songs. Our vision is that all youth have the opportunity to find and share their artistic voice. MVM was born in a mental health treatment center and our artistic mission is tightly enmeshed with a social mission. Though many of our programs are now open to the public at MVM Studios, through our Satellite Programs we place special emphasis on working with youth in treatment centers, foster care, juvenile detention centers, and alternative schools.

Today, MVM reaches about 1,500 youth each year through satellite programs (held on-site at partner agencies), and at MVM Studios where we host rock camps, ensemble groups, individual lessons, advanced music mentorships with professional musicians, and youth leadership development opportunities.

In October, 2021, MVM’s founder and Executive Director, Ian Mouser, died while pursuing a dream of cycling across the United States. Although this has been a very challenging time for the MVM community, Ian left the organization both highly stable and poised to realize major initiatives to expand MVM programs to new parts of the city and state. Over the last two years of the pandemic, MVM was able to maintain all program staff and funding to both realize new projects and shore up organizational stability.
