Title: Director of Development and Grants

Status: Full Time, Exempt

Hours: Usual hours are 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday.  Supervisor is in Pacific time zone, members and events are dispersed from Alaskan to Eastern time zone. 

Reports to: Executive Director

Pay Range: $70,000, advance to $90-95,000 within first year as development goals are met

Location: Remote, anywhere in the United States 

 

Catalyst Kitchens is a network of over 80 nonprofit and social enterprise teaching kitchens and workforce development programs, serving populations with barriers to employment in communities across the country.  The network staff works to provide resources, funding, relationships, and points of connection and learning for all our member programs.  Catalyst Kitchens is comprised of social enterprise teaching kitchens that collaborate to solve common problems, meet common needs, and accomplish common goals.  We recognize the social, economic, and community benefits of the teaching kitchen model. Description: The Director of Development and Grants is responsible for creating and maintaining a strong pipeline of grant funding for the network, pursuing major funders to provide re-granting opportunities to our members, and assisting the executive director designing Catalyst Kitchen’s fundraising initiatives and activities. In the first few years of operations, we expect this position to primarily be responsible for preparing and submitting grant proposals and maintaining a strong pipeline of revenue, both for Catalyst Kitchens staff and program expansion, and for pass-through funding for our members.  The Director will be in charge of ensuring the integrity of development and member data and reporting relevant development results.  As the organization grows, the Director of Development and Grants will coordinate with the Executive Director to plan for cultivating and maintaining relationships with a broader range of funders and supporters. 

 

Who You Are: You are self-directed to be successful and will need to take initiative, you find both structure and joy in working independently. You will drive the organization’s revenue growth, and pass-through funding ability.  You are an experienced workforce development fundraiser with a strong passion for the model of the teaching kitchen and on-the-job training. You have a passion for social justice and a commitment to human rights for all people.  You are well-versed in national and governmental funding, highly energetic, and an intellectually courageous person. This isn’t your first time—you know how to skillfully pursue major funds as well as strategically develop new prospects. You will also build the infrastructure and maintain the systems and activities related to private fundraising and relationship management.

This a new position reporting to the Executive Director that will build and implement Catalyst Kitchens’ fundraising strategy, including foundation, government, individual and corporate funding streams. We are seeking an ambitious and creative person to join our small but growing team and help shape the future of the Catalyst Kitchens Network.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant concepts, proposals, and reports to funders
  • Leads organization in regularly researching new grant funding opportunities with assistance from the Executive Director 
  • Assist Executive Director in the full cycle of philanthropy appreciation process Manage required financial documentation for grant awards
  • Assist Executive Director in planning strategies for re-granting awarded funds to network member organizations and programs 
  • Manage the tracking of all grant-related deliverables and member impact and outcomes reporting data as needed
  • Collaborate with member organizations to gather accurate and relevant information to build and write dynamic proposals for each funder
  • Design and manage the fundraising budget.
  • Establish a data-driven plan for success and lead multi-year advancement/growth planning including tracking and reporting on initiative progress and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Create an annual calendar of grant funding deadlines, solicitation schedules and year end reports.
  • Establish and report on fundraising targets and pipelines.
  • Assist Executive Director in acquiring a robust collection of stories and testimonials to be used in newsletters and other collateral 
  • Attend in-person network events and or funder receptions and galas when able Attend grant trainings and professional development opportunities

Other Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Attend staff meetings, manager meetings, and regular one-on-one meetings with Executive Director
  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates listed competencies in all aspects of work

Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of successful development experience with at least 2 years directly related to grant-writing and 2 years in a leadership role
  • Familiarity with workforce development and on-the-job training programs as a nonprofit model
  • Familiarity with social enterprise
  • Proficient with Google applications and platforms

Other Desired Qualifications or Relevant Experience:

  • Direct restaurant, catering, or other foodservice experience
  • Experience working at or with a member(s) of the Catalyst Kitchens network
  • Lived experience that overlaps with that of populations served by our member programs (see more here www.catalystkitchens.org/member-map)
  • Experience with nonprofits in start-up phase of development

Location and travel: Catalyst Kitchens is a completely remote organization with no central office.  All staff meetings will be conducted online.  Travel will be required for attendance at in-person events for the network, currently up to 5 times per year, possibly more as our operations grow.  Additional travel may be necessary to maintain funder relationships or attend development-related events or conferences.

Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an office setting; employee is regularly at a computer station and operates electronic equipment around 8 hours per day; Position involves regular use of a computer and keyboard, telephone, virtual communications; employee should be able to communicate clearly and professionally in these manners.
