JOB SUMMARY

 

The Director of Marketing and Communications leads an administrative team in the accurate delivery of innovative communications and promotions, utilizing fast-paced digital advertising methods and the identification of new opportunities. The incumbent ensures cohesive branding is intertwined in all aspects of the organization. The incumbent strategically incorporates cross-functional collaboration, internally and externally, in order to meet University Extension's enrollment and reputational goals. The Director provides clear instructions, priority-setting and work flow analysis for the marketing team; receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and develops processes by which to meet goals and to report outcomes; provides direction to subordinate staff according to established policies and management guidance; and recommends changes to department policies and practices. This position requires flexibility, initiative, and ability to identify and respond accordingly to risks.

Salary Information: Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES

 

50% - Daily Operations / Staff Supervision / Policies and Procedures

 

• Oversees the daily operations of the Marketing department that may include all or some of the following: editor / writer, artist, digital communications specialist, web developer, contractors, consultants and vendors.

• Provides comprehensive personnel administration including recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and as required, taking corrective action with subordinate employees and other relevant positions.

• Conducts regular staff meetings with full-time staff and student employees. Sets performance expectations of staff; establishes and implements operational guidelines and policies, mentors and monitors staff to ensure compliance with performance standards. Provides priority-setting and work flow analysis.

• Provides comprehensive resolution to problems, complaints, issues or concerns from all constituencies.

• Oversees work processes and outputs, ensures standards are met, continual improvement is achieved and that the department consistently provides constituents with the highest level of service.

 

45% - Strategy / Product Development / Enrollments

 

• Reports on marketing efforts and effectiveness, disseminates information across the organization.

• Identifies priorities for developing new products based on market input and ideas contributed by other unit professionals. Makes recommendations on in-demand products as positioned for both short-term and long-term growth.

• Assesses competitive landscape, works with product and academic program management to perform gap analysis, performs make vs. buy analysis, analyzes profitability and impact of partner programs. Makes recommendations on product plans and roadmaps.

• Works with administration to develop a strategic plan, goals and objectives for departmental and organizational growth. Oversees key relationships to support business, employee and faculty relations, and other strategic needs.

• Serves as advisor on all aspects of digital communications; enforces brand and image standards; defines infrastructure for public relations (PR), advertising, corporate communications, events, tactical strategies, user group community programs and production synergies across all marketing and promotional services.

• Delivers marketing, advertising and promotional services that include but not limited to print collateral, digital marketing/social media, webinars, email campaigns, SEO, communications, events / event planning / participation, lead generation / driving opportunities through the sales pipeline and project implementations. Creates processes to streamline efforts, and manage workflow.

• Operates on a fiscal calendar and sets annual corporate strategic marketing plan assembled from product and academic program production roadmaps, and other coordinated calendars to deliver on milestones and objectives. Oversees the marketing budget, vendor relationships, request for proposals and negotiations.

• Oversees the impact of marketing efforts in terms of lead generation and enrollments. Leads the outreach team in strategies toward higher conversion rates and customer experience. Adjusts strategic plans and tactics accordingly.

• Manages a portfolio of external partners and creates opportunities for corporate engagement.

 

5% - Budget

 

• Works with other unit professionals to prepare fiscal reports and provide analysis and recommendations to upper management. Reports findings to organizational leadership through quarterly Ops Reviews.

• In consultation with management, prepares and monitors annual budget, including providing staffing projections and recommending capital expenditures for facilities.

• Responsible for the marketing and advertising budget.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, deadlines and personalities, and ability to foresee and resolve a wide variety of business problems. High level of initiative, organizational ability and follow-through.

• Proven experience creating and implementing strategic business plans, business process changes, budget analysis and reporting.

• Strong interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal, to effectively present to and deal with all levels of the organization and external constituencies.

• Effective negotiation skills for cost and quality control and contracting issues.

• Proven experience in the areas of corporate business development and product development and management. Ability to evaluate current and prospective programs / products to determine feasibility and needs from a marketing and financial perspective, including competitive assessment.

• Ability to establish strong measurements around marketing and sales activity, and then report quantifiably those results.

• Working knowledge of measurement tools, analytics, and the development of report building.

• Ability to promote a strong vision for new opportunities that cultivate leads from generation to enrollment.High level of creativity, promotional cycle follow-through and customer service skills.

• Ability to lead and manage a team towards innovative advertising campaigns, utilizing Google Ad words, keywords, SEO / SEM, Cost-per-Click, Cost-per-Acquisition and other digital marketing methodologies.

• Working knowledge of Customer Relationship Management tools (CRM).

• Ability to manage human resources, including setting goals, delegating authority, providing feedback, counseling, coaching, and conducting performance evaluations.

• Supervisory experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

• Working knowledge of higher education professional development programs and their business ecosystem.
