Job Details

Objective
This position ensures the church’s operational readiness and brings unity through leadership and oversight of the support staff performing duties in administration, finance, human resources, supply and facilities. Supports the Senior Pastor through effective leadership, evaluation, discernment, decision making, planning and overall direction of the church staff.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the United Methodist Church beliefs, doctrines, discipline, traditions, and social principles.  Knowledge of the culture and values of Northside Church, articulates and supports its mission and direction; and demonstrates through words and actions the love of God
  • Knowledge of generally accepted church operations, applicable laws related to operations, accounting principles, human resources
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the functions of operations, finance, administration, information technology, and risk management.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of change; remains openminded and changes opinions on the basis of new information; adapts to change and different ways of doing things quickly and positively
  • Knowledge and skills in the management of programs and projects, including planning, organizing, staffing, direction and evaluation

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Pastor through effective leadership, evaluation, discernment, decision making, planning and overall direction of the church staff
  • Primary Staff Contact for Trustees, Finance and Church Council writes agenda for the meetings and plans with Chairs/Vice Chairs prior to each meeting; attend all meetings of SPRC, Finance, Trustees and Church Council
  • Lead the church staff to effectively reach and serve the church’s demographic to accomplish the overall mission
  • Oversight of Northside Methodist Preschool: serve on the Preschool Board, and Preschool Personnel committee helping to guide the preschool as an outreach ministry of the church
  • Oversight of Information Technology: web site, computers, software, software as a service, web integration, Wi-Fi on campus
  • Oversight of the Facilities: establishing a three -year plan for maintenance, renovations, and recommend improvements to property to Board of Trustees
  • Oversight of Finance: annual budgets by ministry the insures sound biblical stewardship, cash flow, income, expenses, insurance: medical, dental, life, property & casualty, automotive, etc. re
  • Oversight of Food Service: insure kitchen is staffed for Sunday Morning Hospitality, Wednesday Night Dinner, and other internal events. Oversee aspects of meal planning, ordering, and maintenance
  • Oversight of Human Resources: all aspects of hiring, reviewing, mentoring, coaching, counseling, conflict management and terminating staff. Establishment of HR Manual, Policies and Procedures, Performance evaluation for all employees and Strategic Workforce Management.
  • Organize and lead staff, departmental and board meetings, agendas, retreats, and scheduling while insuring vibrant and effective communication among all levels of staff. 
  • Develop an infrastructure for all ministry and support areas insuring long-term growth
  • Facilitate and execute the strategic plan process
  • Establish and maintain a set of key performance measures (KPMs) that provide the senior pastor, church staff, and congregation with ongoing visibility of the effectiveness of all functional areas of the church
  • Implement necessary processes to assure congregational health & efficiency in a large church setting 
  • Lead hiring initiatives in cooperation with the senior pastor that are based on the church’s strategy and fit
  • Ensure staffing, facilities, finances and programs are appropriately and effectively aligned to best meet the church’s strategic goals
  • Ensure appropriate processes, policies, controls and oversight are in place to deliver on all financial, legal and operating standards
  • Operate as church sexton managing contracts and interment of ashes in the Memorial Garden Perform other related tasks as requested by the Senior Pastor

  • Ability to address conflicts by focusing on the issues at hand to develop effective solutions when disputes or disagreements occur; helps others resolve conflicts by providing impartial mediation when needed.
  • Ability to develop focus on the larger view of the church. Interacts well with other executive leaders in strategic and operational planning and in ongoing processes of leading change

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 6+ years’ experience in church ministry or professional-level skills and experience with people, business, and financial management. or; combination of education and experience commensurate with the minimum requirements of this position
  • Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; bend and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone and other office and/or clerical equipment. Requires normal range of hearing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

This is a high-stress position based on full responsibility for the church’s operations. Handles detailed, complex concepts and problems, balances multiple tasks simultaneously, and makes rapid decisions regarding administrative issues.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly in a typical office environment with adequate light and moderate noise levels. No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. Airconditioned buildings; tile, concrete and carpeted floors; adjustable workstation with ergonomic keyboard is provided.

The office environment is fast-paced and may be considered stressful, due to seemingly regular interruptions because of numerous urgent and unexpected requests that requires multi-tasking. This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Sunday through Thursday.  Evening, weekend and holiday work is required as job duties demand.
