Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Associate
Job Overview
The Associate will work with the team to build and cultivate a membership organization of law enforcement leaders (District Attorneys, Police Chiefs, and Sheriffs) to support and advocate for increased state and federal investments in programs and policies that benefit our children, communities, and economy, such as early childhood and afterschool programs.
The goals of the position are to (1) strategically steward the voice of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids on issues relating to strengthening investments in children and youth and (2) engage, activate, and mobilize these leaders to educate policy-makers and the public about the benefit of ongoing, impactful, and equitable investments in children to protect public safety.
Responsibilities and Duties

Manage an assigned state portfolio to recruit, engage, and activate law enforcement leaders in those states.

Develop creative and relevant approaches and communications for the recruitment and engagement of members.

Draft talking points for members to use at media events and for legislative testimony. Provide input for messaging around broad policy goals and advocacy issues, including earned media campaigns (letters to the editor, Op-Eds, blog posts), content creation for social media efforts, and sign-on letters.

Create content for regular communication with Fight Crime: Invest in Kids members through e-newsletters, social media campaigns, and other means.

Apply data and metrics to promote deeper and wider member engagement. The candidate should have experience or interest in managing member relationships with a CRM (Council for a Strong America uses Salesforce primarily);

Use data to create segmented lists in order to account for varying levels of commitment to the organization and to build our pipeline of champion members;

Participate in decision-making regarding key policymaker targets and advocacy strategies to achieve policy goals;

Developing materials for state and national conferences, development team requests, development meetings, and meetings with allies;

Aid in the creation of national membership recruitment strategies (including preparing and delivering presentations for member recruitment and education, and executing hosted events); and,

Coordinate activities with other teams and assist in the maintenance of team systems.
Skills and Qualifications:

Strong commitment to our mission and strategic vision;

At least two years of experience working in a related field (such as communications industry, policy-oriented setting, non-profit advocacy);

Experience working with law enforcement is a plus.

Extremely detail-oriented and well organized;

Self-starter and ability to juggle multiple projects at once, and respond rapidly and flexibly to changing priorities, while meeting deadlines;

Demonstrated ability to be an effective and persuasive communicator, both orally and in writing;

Able to present sometimes complex information in a coherent, persuasive manner; in a variety of forums;

Proficient with Google Drive/Word/Excel/PowerPoint ;

Ability to perform research on legislative and regulatory issues and make recommendations on the possible course of action; and
-
Passion for issues affecting underrepresented and disadvantaged kids.
Physical Demands
This position will occasionally require lifting boxes and conference materials, as well as setting up and tearing down conference materials.
Travel
Travel will be required from time to time based on opportunities.
