Job Details

The organization is currently seeking a part-time Communications Fellow to work remotely and occasionally in our Atlanta office. This position provides important outreach to sustain and increase our engagement with Georgia Organics members, farmers, constituents, and followers.

 

This Georgia Organics Communications Fellowship aims to provide participants with a strong working knowledge of non-profit communications and marketing. Our Communications Director works hard to ensure that Georgia Organics’ teams—Farmer Services, Farmer Champion, Farm to School, Family Farm Share, and Fundraising/Membership—are supported and championed in our marketing, messaging/branding, and storytelling to broadcast their work and impact. We focus strongly on uplifting the stories and work of our partners, local leaders, farmers, and other key players in Georgia’s local food movement.

 

Our goal for this experience is threefold. First, we hope participants consider themselves a member of the Georgia Organics team and enjoy the daily communication and supportive rapport that we share; we are passionate and knowledgeable food and farming supporters! Next, we aim to provide some of the day-to-day administrative and internal communications skills that are beneficial for navigating any career. Finally, and most importantly, we hope that participants emerge from this fellowship with work that they are proud of and that provides meaningful impact for the organization.

 

We don’t just want fellows to create email campaigns or manage social media content, our goal is to engage participants in exciting, impactful work that will help us create a more healthy and just food system in Georgia.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Communications Fellow reports directly to the Communications Director; the role includes the following responsibilities:

 

Marketing Support (40%): Work closely with Communications Director to develop and execute annual marketing strategy for the organization as a whole and our programmatic teams, inc. Farmer Services, Farmer Champion, Farm to School, and Family Farm Share. Marketing responsibilities include:

 

  • Website Updates & Optimizations Weekly monitoring and maintenance of Squarespace sites Monthly reporting and suggested optimizations for Georgia Organics websites

Email Marketing: Creation & Optimizations Draft, schedule, and send weekly email campaigns in Mailchimp Assist program teams email campaign development Monthly reporting and suggested optimizations for Georgia Organics emails Blog Content Creation Conduct informal interviews and draft content for the Georgia Organics blog (thedirt.georgiaorganics.org) and other communications channels. Content will highlight key stakeholders in Georgia’s good food movement, Georgia Organics stakeholders and constituents (farmers, local food activists, educators, business owners. Work with Communications Director to develop editorial calendar of digital marketing content Social Media Support (40%):

 

  • Assist Communications Director with development of social media content and collaboration with program teams to gather content
  • Schedule/publish daily social media content using Hootsuite Manage follower engagement Conduct monthly reporting and optimizations to improve social media performance

Administrative (20%):

 

  • Help create Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents for communications processes Help refine internal communications processes related to marketing Help organize and maintain virtual storage of marketing/communications assets Learn and work within project management platform

Range of Desired Qualifications:

 

  • MUST be very organized, self-motivated, and eager to learn Required skills: writing, problem-solving, attention to detail, and interpersonal communications Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision Must have interest or experience in the food, farming, and/or environmental spaces Flexibility, a sense of humor, and a commitment to the mission of Georgia Organics

Compensation:

 

The Communications Fellow is a part-time position, beginning in May 2022, working approximately 20-25 hours a week. The salary rate $15/hour and is paid twice monthly. As a part-time employee of Georgia Organics, you will not be eligible for organization-sponsored benefits or paid vacation.
