Major Gifts Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Who We Are:

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from.  Since 1979, we’ve been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners – including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers.  We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

About the Role:

The Major Gifts Manager will secure critical funding for the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s mission and programs. The Major Gifts Manager is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts of $5,000 and above from individual supporters, and manages an assigned portfolio of up to 150 donors. As an integral part of the development team, the Major Gifts Manager collaborates with other team members to identify and implement successful donor strategies. This position reports to the Director of Individual Giving.

What You’ll Do:

Fundraising & Strategic Portfolio Management

  • Meet annual revenue goals by managing an increasingly productive portfolio of individual donors with ongoing success.
  • Create, execute and track a moves management strategy for all donors in assigned portfolio.
  • Work independently to engage and build relationships with major donors through phone, email, written communications, face-to-face meetings, tours, and other activities.
  • Collaborate with other team members on special donor events, including but not limited to, major donor events, special marketing events, planned giving events and other donor-specific events.
  • Develop custom donor proposals, presentations and reports as needed, aligning the donor’s interests with the Food Bank’s programs and objectives.
  • Provide personal acknowledgement for major donor gifts and ensure timely and appropriate thank you letters, calls and outreach.
  • Identify planned giving prospects among assigned donors and promote planned giving opportunities in coordination with the Director of Individual Giving.
  • Participate in regular strategic gift meetings with other frontline fundraisers to review key metrics, align donor-facing engagement, and ensure mutual accountability.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Record all significant donor interactions in donor database in timely fashion according to moves management guidelines.
  • Work with Donor Services team to maintain accurate donor records and ensure appropriate coding for reporting, acknowledgement, recognition, and communications.
  • Assist in donor and prospect research.
  • Provide accurate and timely activity, pipeline, and revenue reports and forecasts.

Build and Nurture Relationships

  • Engage volunteers, board members and staff as needed in the donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship process.
  • Collaborate with other team members and Prospect Researcher to analyze portfolios, identify prospects, develop solicitation strategies, and strengthen the Food Bank’s overall donor pipeline.
  • Participate in external speaking engagements and represent the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s mission with stakeholders to elevate our brand within the community.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as required.

What You’ll Need:  Skills and Experience your resume should demonstrate:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in fundraising or comparable sales and business development field
  • Proven record of successfully cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects capable of making five and six figure investments
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies with an emphasis on major gift fundraising
  • Exemplary relationship-building and communication skills: written, oral, presentation and interpersonal
  • Adept at facilitating conversations, navigating conflict, and building consensus towards solutions
  • Experience with moves management systems and ability to think and work strategically
