Position Description 

Nuestra Tierra has grown rapidly since our official designation as a nonprofit in 2019. In order to sustain and further increase this growth, additional capacity is needed. Accordingly, we are hiring an inaugural Development Director to serve as a leader in securing resources to achieve and expand Nuestra Tierra’s vision. Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Development Director (Director) will spearhead development efforts and diversify our funding streams. The Director will have the unique opportunity to build the necessary fundraising procedures, policies, and practices to foster and maintain relationships with established donors and funders; actively seek new funder and donor opportunities; implement and maintain Bloomerang (CRM). 


Position Objectives

  • Develop and execute Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project’s annual fundraising plan
  • Collaborate with the ED to develop and maintain current relationships with major donors and foundations to increase unrestricted and restricted grant income
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations
  • Manage the implementation of Bloomerang (CRM) and oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing
  • Create and execute a strategy to sustain a large base of annual individual donors
  • Oversee organization of special events
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Must be able to make the ‘ask’ and tell the unique and compelling story of Nuestra Tierra
  • Lead communications with current and prospective donors
  • Plan and execute annual appeals and other fundraising campaigns throughout the year
  • Other duties as assigned that support the mission of the organization 

Essential Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have a passion for protecting public lands and support Nuestra Tierra’s vision and mission. The ideal fit will be an innovative problem-solver who values team collaboration.

  • 4+  years Development experience with the ability to manage complex nonprofit budgets
  • Proven donor cultivation and management experience
  • Experience working with CRMs
  • Grant program management and successful grant awards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Able to learn computer functions, systems, and on-the-job skills
  • Ability to take initiative and effectively adapt to change
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and access within the organization and in the environmental movement.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Budgeting, bookkeeping, and fiscal management
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks
  • Previous work within a non-profit 

Compensation Package

  • $68,000 - $78,000/annually depending on experience
  • 100% Employer paid health, dental and vision
  • 15 days paid time off (PTO)
  • Holiday pay
