The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is a member-based not-for-profit association that improves the health of the public by strengthening state-based leadership and expertise for chronic disease prevention and management. NACDD’s core membership is composed of 58 state and territorial health department chronic disease directors and their staff who protect the health of the public through primary and secondary prevention efforts and work “upstream” on root causes of chronic conditions. In addition, NACDD unites 7,000 chronic disease professionals across the United States working in state, tribal, and territorial health departments, nonprofits, academia, and the private industry to promote health and to reduce the burden of chronic disease. As a national, nonprofit, professional Association, we advocate, educate, and provide technical assistance, to inform programming and grow chronic disease prevention knowledge, leadership, and capacity.

Position Summary 

The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our organization as a Grants Specialist to support our program teams. NACDD is a Member-based not-for-profit Association that improves the health of the public by strengthening state-based leadership and expertise for chronic disease prevention and control in states and at the national level. NACDD's role continues to be that of standing in the gap, linking resources with its member-experts and together creating a safer, healthier and more equitable America.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Program Operations, this position is responsible for providing organizational wide grant management support to include submission and compliance of required information. This position will work closely in collaboration with NACDD finance, grants and contracts staff in addition to various program stakeholders and serve as point of contact for various funding partners.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in grant management and serve as point of contact for funders;
  • Coordinate with Senior Director of Programs and other program leadership personnel on the planning, preparation, and submission of grant applications and/or proposals;
  • Manage and facilitate the pre-award, management, and close-out activities of grants, to include completion and submission of progress reports, carry forward, redirect, and no cost extension information;
  • Track and report programmatic and financial status of grants to include Federal Financial Report,  Annual Progress Reports in collaboration with Association consultants, grants and contracts staff, and programs staff to promote compliance of grant/proposal requirements;
  • Interpret grant policy and procedures along with read and interpret grant guidelines and contracts, and communicate these effectively both orally and in writing as applicable;
  • Serve as point of contact for consultants for federal grant budget preparation and adjustments to include review and approval, as well as making budget changes due to carryforwards, redirects, no cost extensions (NCE), grant applications, etc.;
  • Complete submissions to GrantSolutions.gov and monitor for reporting updates;
  • Communicate any reporting updates received from GrantSolutions.gov to the Senior Director of Programs and other program leadership personnel;
  • Develop and maintain a grants calendar with dates for multiple grant application submissions, FFRs and other reports;
  • Promote consistent communication and outreach to grant funders and sub-grantees/vendors;
  • Facilitate the completion of  the Association’s Program Closure Report with Association consultants and staff;
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to program consultants, staff, and vendors in  interpreting and applying grant regulations, policies, and procedures;
  • Analyze federal agency grant procedures/regulations and the Association’s grant management practices and ensure Association policies and procedures are appropriate;
  • Participate in monthly Consultant Calls to provide financial insights and recommendation as to grant budget spending;
  • Collaborate with Finance for resolution of  grant project budget and accounting variances;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s degree in  Business Administration, Public Health Administration, or equivalent required; 
  • At least seven years of experience of grant and cooperative agreement administration in a non-profit sector, including the administration of federal programs is required;
  • At least seven years of experience with government and/or non-profit accounting is required;
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial statements; and ability to prepare donor financial reports required; 
  • Demonstrated operational knowledge of the full grants lifecycle and grant regulations, policies, practices, and system required;
  • Experience with managing multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment paired with the ability to meet critical deadlines required;

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Experience in working with Health and Human Services (HHS) organizations a plus. 
  • Experience working with the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC’s) cooperative agreements a plus.

Technical Competencies 

  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite; preferably advance knowledge in Excel

Behavioral Competencies

  • Must possess analytical skills and high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in written, oral, and visual form;
  • Must be highly organized and possess the ability to maintain effective record keeping systems;
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and build relationships is a must
