The Organization:

Make the Road Connecticut (MRCT) is a statewide organization that builds the power of immigrants and low-income Latinx in Hartford and Bridgeport to achieve dignity and justice. We do this by community organizing, legal and survival services, transformative education, and policy innovation. We tackle the issues that directly impact our communities of color: immigration reform, economic justice, education equity, womxn’s justice and youth justice. Make the Road Connecticut is a project of Make the Road States Inc. Make the Road States Inc. is a 501c3 tax exempt status.

Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization, is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues that are most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most. 

The Role: 

The Operations & Special Projects Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations, managing the organization's offices, admin, helping and creating organizational alignment and fiscal management in collaboration with the Executive Director, Senior Development & Programs Manager, and Lead Organizer. This role requires ongoing administrative support for the following departments: Organizing and Development team. The Operations & Special Projects Manager will also provide supervision for any administrative or special project team members. Moreover, when funding for special projects is secured; they will manage the project for the grant cycle period. 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate large events across the organization, provide additional support with logistics as needed Office and overall management oversight
    • Monitor, manage and improve the efficiency of support services such as IT, HR, Accounts and Finance. Facilitate coordination and communication between support functions. Help with the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices.  Drive initiatives into the organization that contribute to long-term operational excellence Oversee facility operations management, including drills, safety inspections, accessibility plans and corrective action plans Oversee inventory for each location
    Fiscal Management 
    • Submit monthly expense reports Develop budgets for large events Submit invoices that need to be paid and create external invoices Support development team and central staff to maintain and monitor members monthly/annuals dues collections procedures and system, as well as membership intake data entry Assist the executive director with board meetings preparation
    Vendor and Contract Management
    • Hold relationships with external vendors, upload and keep contracts filed  Assist with big picture operations project, such as building acquisitions, lease negotiations and rentals Work with contractors and vendors to keep the best price for the organization (office and cleaning supplies, contractors, consultants, construction, etc)
    Office Records and IT support
    • Ensure everything is up to date and organized Create and hold training for all staff and provide support as needed (this includes ChromeRiver, ADP, etc.) Regular check ins with each office lead to ensure accurate records
    Human Resources and Central staff support person in-state
    • Work closely with HR department from Make the Road States to provide accurate and up to date information to staff Provide new hire onboarding materials, tech, tools, etc. and connect them HR department Create, check for legal compliance and post new job postings
    Special Projects
    • Provide infrastructure for project Manage and ensure completion of special project grant deliverables  If required by special project supervise project staff Data management of project 

Qualifications

  • Eligible to work in the US
  • Required to be fully vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine prior to employment at MRCT/MRStates Inc.
  • Bachelor’s degree or at minimum 4 years of work experience related to operations management;
  • At least 1-3 years of proven experience supervising direct staff;
  • Bilingual: English-Spanish (written and spoken) is required;
  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice, strong analysis of systemic oppression based on race, class, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, and an understanding of challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low-and moderate-income families;
  • Drivers license and vehicle is required;
  • Experience in ADP, Chrome River, EveryAction, ActBlue is preferred
  • Dedication and ability to work flexible hours;
  • This position will need to travel between Bridgeport & Hartford on a regular basis and will be based in one city.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary is based on a scale set by a democratically-elected personnel committee and will depend on factors such as experience and education. MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $51,859 to $61,859
