To help transform the social and economic conditions in South Los Angeles that foster addiction, crime, violence and poverty by building a community institution capable of involving thousands in creating, influencing and changing public policy.

Community Coalition’s projects and victories include stopping the expansion of liquor stores in South LA, supporting gang violence prevention programs, creating foster and family care support programs, hosting art and music festivals and healthcare enrollment fairs. Community Coalition has also registered and mobilized thousands of voters in South LA, participated in the process to create a federal Promise Zone for South Los Angeles and creates leadership opportunities for young people with the South Central Youth Empowered through Action program and Freedom School, among other projects.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Finance and in close collaboration with the Executive Team, the Finance Manager  will manage the daily operations of the finance department, including but not limited to: monitoring and analyzing accounting data, generating reports, and establishing and maintaining appropriate controls and protocols. The Finance Manager will lead the accounting functions for Community Coalition and its subgrantees and subcontractors, while maintaining a high level of responsibility to accounting policies and principles. This position will coordinate with external auditors to produce relevant information and will lead initiatives that promote compliance and accuracy in the accounts receivable, payable, reimbursement, and other financial activities. The Finance Manager will partner with the Development team to track and support the grant development process and reconcile major gifts. This position will support the Finance Director to provide monthly updates on organizational and departmental budgets. The Finance Manager must appropriately maintain confidentiality around the organization's financial information.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned):

  1. Manages all functions of accounts payable and receivables, including all data entry into accounting software (abila-mip).
  2. Generates monthly financial statements (balance sheet, P&L and cash flow).
  3. Supports the accounting functions and ensures organizational adherence of the finance policies, procedures and systems.
  4. Performs monthly account analysis, bank reconciliation, general ledger entries and supports cash flow projections.
  5. Support the Director of Finance with developing all financial statements for Executive Team and the Board of Directors.
  6. Supports the Finance Director in completing contract billings for all public monies.
  7. Supports the successful completion of all audits (organizational, public, private foundations).
  8. Monthly reconciliation of tracking mechanisms for unrestricted revenue management.
  9. Collaborates with the Director of Finance to enhance internal controls.
  10. Collaborates with the Development department to generate financial reports and support on new grant opportunities.
  11. Maintains regular communication with staff around updates, changes, procedures related to time sheets, reimbursement requests, and other key finance-related documents/forms/practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Familiarity with South Los Angeles and issues impacting the community
  • Skills in independently prioritizing, planning, coordinating, organizing, leading and  monitoring multiple organizational projects of a complex nature simultaneously and quickly adapting to changes in time frames
  • Exemplary customer service skills including the ability to identify needs, provide prompt response, and exercise patience, respect and professionalism in all interactions 

     

Skill Requirements

  • 4-6 Years Accounting Experience
  • Strong knowledge of accounting in accordance with GAAP and accounting best practices
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Public Grant/Contract Management experience helpful
  • Knowledge of Accounting Software
