Job Details

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) is currently looking for a Sr. Director of Finance and Administration.  GLSP is a private nonprofit law firm that provides legal assistance to persons with low incomes in the 154 Georgia counties outside the metropolitan Atlanta area. The firm has 10 locations across the state.  GLSP receives a substantial amount of its funding from the federal Legal Services Corporation (LSC), with the remainder of its funding coming from over 60 various private and public sources. 

 

As a key member of GLSP’s Executive Leadership Team, the Sr. Director of Finance and Administration has primary, day‑to-day responsibility for all financial‑related activities for the organization, as well as management of the Human Resources and Information Technology functions. As GLSP’s top financial official, this includes direct responsibility for accounting, financial management, forecasting, budgeting, strategic planning, and grant and contract financial compliance. 

 

In conjunction with the Director of Human Resources and Director of Information Technology, the Sr. Director of Finance and Administration support all HR and IT needs, including recruiting, retention, employee engagement, ensuring employee access to necessary technology resources/training, and ensuring annual budgeting cycle includes the needed technology allocations.  The Sr. Director of Finance and Administration is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and presently works from the firm’s headquarters in downtown Atlanta.  When conditions are met, GLSP policy allows for telework two days a week.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Manage all finance, accounting, HR and IT functions, supervising a staff of three direct reports.

 

Ensure that GLSP complies with LSC requirements, regulations, and policies, as well as those of other funders, and with generally accepted accounting principles and practices.  Develop new internal controls and policies as needed.

 

Manage the annual external audit and 990 tax preparation.

 

Manage the daily banking and cash flow requirements as well as long-term investments per Board policies.

 

Train, coach, and develop staff.

 

Analyze the firm’s financial position including forecasting, supporting the budget and strategic planning processes and determine the optimal accounting solutions that meet GLSP needs and reflect GLSP values.

 

Streamline and document all accounting / finance policies and procedures, utilizing best practices with technology when practical.

 

Prepare project budgets for grant proposals and other potential funders as needed.

 

Manage relationships with outside vendors such as bankers, insurance brokers, retirement plan administrators and financial auditors.

 

Communicate with and report to the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee and conduct quarterly Finance Committee meetings.

 

Handle all financial transactions, reporting and Board of Directors support for the separate Georgia Legal Services Foundation, which is a 509 (a) (3) Supporting Organization, including quarterly financial statements and preparing the 990.

 

Support the Director of HR with employee recruitment, engagement and retention, as well as the annual performance review process.

 

Manage GLSP’s self-funded insurance portfolio and benefit plan offerings.

 

Support the Director of IT with overall technology initiatives, including access to necessary technology equipment and services.

 

Ensure compliance with GLSP Collective Bargaining Agreement.

 

Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.         B.S. degree in Accounting or Finance is required; five (5) or more years of nonprofit accounting experience at the senior accountant level or higher; CPA preferred.  Experience with A‑133 audits and IRS Form 990 is preferred.

 

 

2.         Proven communication skills utilizing a variety of tools like spreadsheets, graphs, written narrative, and oral methods that present complex financial information in a concise, easy to understand format. Samples required.

 

 

3.         Proven ability to see the big picture, anticipates and resolves issues, and organizes details.  Interest in working with a mission-driven organization.

 

 

4.         Experience with and commitment to working with a diverse workforce.

 

 

5.         Recent experience and/or exposure to various accounting systems and subsidiary systems is preferred; knowledge of recent improvements and best practices in using accounting/finance‑related software required.  Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software.

 

 

6.         Proven attention to detail as realized in numeric accuracy, precise labels, and aesthetically pleasing presentations of the data is required.

 

 

7.         Demonstrated problem solving skills and good judgment is required. Demonstrated ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative information is required.

 

 

 

8.         Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member, but also be self-motivated.  Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines as needed.

 

 

9.         Ability to travel within Georgia approximately 5% of the time is required.
