About CDP

Founded in 2010, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) supports equitable disaster recovery through philanthropic consulting, localized funding and expert resources.

Disaster recovery is the process of improving individual, family and community resilience after a disaster. Recovery is not only about restoring structures, systems and services – although they are critical. A successful recovery is also about addressing sources of inequitable and unjust outcomes; it is about individuals and families rebounding from their losses and sustaining their physical, social, economic, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Focusing on medium- to long-term recovery, CDP raises awareness of the need for committed attention and localized, sustainable funding to support marginalized and underserved communities.

The Opportunity – Responsibilities & Duties

Over the past two years, CDP has experienced growth, increased visibility among foundation, corporate and wealthy donors, and expanded its community of partners working to support long-term recovery in communities affected by disasters worldwide. It needs a talented Marketing and Communications Manager who will play a critical role in boosting brand awareness, engaging with CDP’s diverse audience and positioning the organization as a vital resource for grantmakers and donors in their equity-centered strategic giving.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, this position will be deeply involved in the planning and day-to-day execution of data-driven, integrated marketing and communications strategies to grow and engage with CDP’s supporters, partners and other community members. They will work alongside another Marketing and Communications Manager with complementary responsibilities. An intern currently supports both positions.

Primary responsibilities include:

SOCIAL MEDIA

Grow and engage with CDP’s online community, positioning CDP and its staff as active and knowledgeable leaders in conversations that connect to and further our mission. Tasks not limited to but may include:

  • Creating and implementing a community engagement plan that amplifies community-generated content and informs and activates community members on social media. Deploying social media ads. Designing social media images. Leading social media campaigns.

WEBINARS

  • Creating and implementing email invitations, social media posts and images, and other promotional materials. Setting up website and registration pages and post-webinar surveys. Soliciting and coordinating co-sponsorships. Executing post-webinar follow-up tasks such as processing registration lists and post-webinar surveys, uploading the recording on YouTube, and tracking and analyzing webinar statistics.

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

Leverage speaking opportunities to promote CDP’s thought leadership and expertise, elevate CDP’s brand and engage with donors, partners and online community members. Tasks not limited to but may include:

  • Positioning CDP’s executive leadership for keynote, panel and other speaking opportunities in major conferences and events. Attending select engagements at which CDP is speaking to amplify our messaging and thought leadership. Troubleshooting, reviewing and assisting staff as needed with creating slides and handouts with an eye toward producing quality visuals and clear content. Using social media to steward relationships with donors and community partners and engage with its online community.

EDITORIAL CALENDAR

Curate and implement a thematic schedule of relevant content based on select holidays and observances and initiatives across CDP’s communications platforms. In addition to annually updating the editorial calendar, some additional tasks include:

  • Coordinating and ensuring implementation of activities such as op-eds, blog posts, social media posts and community engagement around specific holidays and observances. Amplifying relevant content from community partners.

POWERPOINT

Serve as in-house PowerPoint “power user” to ensure that slide presentations for webinars and speaking engagements are visually appealing, consistent with CDP’s brand and aligned with best practices.

  • Create and maintain evergreen slides using newly redesigned templates. Assist staff with creative and technical troubleshooting as needed.

OTHER MARCOMMS ACTIVITIES

Perform other duties and job-related tasks that may be assigned consistent with the strategic goals of the role, the department and the organization.
