We are hiring for a full-time job to join the Agency & Program Services Department at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN.

POSITION SUMMARY
 

Client Outreach Manager strengthens Second Harvest’s SNAP Outreach Program & TEFAP Program to effectively connect clients with public benefits. Initiates direct client outreach as well as building and maintaining relationships with community partners. This position supports and fosters our deep commitment to diversity and inclusion, which is the foundation for creating a culture of belonging for all personnel.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides SNAP Outreach and Application Assistance to clients.

  • Visits partner agencies, food distributions, and community events to educate clients about the SNAP Program. Works directly with clients to determine potential SNAP eligibility. Assists individuals with completing and submitting a SNAP application. Explains the process and next steps. Follow ups with clients on the outcome of their SNAP application.

Educates partner agencies and community partners on SNAP.

  • Provides training and ongoing support to partner agencies that provide SNAP outreach directly to their clients. Establishes and builds relationships with nontraditional SNAP outreach partners, such as hospitals and colleges. Disseminates SNAP informational and nutritional handouts to partners.

Develops and implements SNAP outreach activities.

  • Collaborates with Marketing team to create SNAP messaging and marketing materials for outreach activities, including Google SNAP Ads. Implements effective SNAP outreach activities to increase applications submitted. Acts as a consultant for internal programs and partner agencies who request SNAP information.

Tracks SNAP outreach activities and effectiveness.

  • Records SNAP outreach data. Reviews client SNAP application status in ACCENT - the State of TN Social Services computer system. Submits monthly SNAP Outreach Narrative and SNAP Contact Report to management.

Manages SNAP outreach volunteers and staff.

  • Manages AmeriCorps application process and members. Develops and manages Second Harvest SNAP volunteer opportunities. Manages SNAP Outreach Coordinator.

Oversees the intake and review of TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) USDA partner agency reports.

  • Reviews agency monthly reporting. Provides TEFAP training to partner agencies. Provides regular TEFAP communication and program updates to Partner Agencies. Explores alternate distribution methods.

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Yes, directly supervises one part-time SNAP Outreach Coordinator. If awarded/ secured, also supervises AmeriCorps members.

HOURS

  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
  • Occasional evenings and/or weekends may be required for meetings or special events.
  • Occasional duties may be necessary, as well as responding to issues, outside of normal working hours (e.g., disaster response, community events, etc.).

TRAVEL

  • Occasional daytime travel required, up to 50% of work week within the local service area.
  • Current driver’s license with copy of current auto insurance and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) results required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (or similar degree) or Associate degree with 3+ years of related work experience and/or training preferred. High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.

Experience:     1+ year of related experience and/ or training.

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel to manage scheduling and communications, produce letters, educational materials, and spreadsheets.

  • Identifies potentially more effective methods of work operation.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with co-workers, program partners, and the public.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic principles of food preparation and handling, including following and preparing recipes and proper temperatures for food storage and service.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Environment: The office is in the administrative area of the Main Distribution Center, attached to the food bank warehouse. The primary work area has high lighting levels, is temperature controlled, noise level is usually moderate and has limited potential for hazards. With forklift traffic in the facility and product stacked and stored throughout, this position requires someone who is mobile and who can watch for traffic and normal hazards of a warehouse environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. On occasion, warehouse and/or kitchen duties may be necessary as well as responding to issues outside of normal working hours (e.g., disaster response, community events, etc.).

Physical Demands: Required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying objects up to 25 pounds may be required.

Language skills: Read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, financial reports. Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphases; correct punctuation and variation of word order; using present, perfect, and future tenses. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 

Mathematical skills: Perform basic math and algebra skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs. Read and interpret financial statements and prepare budgets. 

Reasoning ability: Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Apply logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Deal with very difficult concepts and complex variables.
