Justice in Aging seeks a program associate to support our Health Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team whose advocacy and legal expertise advance health equity for millions of low-income older adults across the country. The right candidate will gain from experience in health care advocacy, training, communications, and development while advancing our new Advancing Equity in Aging Initiative.

Justice in Aging uses the power of law and our expertise in health care, long-term services and supports, economic security, and elder justice to fight senior poverty. Our work addresses the systemic and intersectional inequities faced by older adults of color, older women, LGBTQ+ older adults, older adults with disabilities, and older adults who are immigrants or have limited English proficiency. Founded in 1972, we have a rich tradition of successful, high-impact, and strategic advocacy on behalf of the more than 7 million seniors living in poverty nationally. We also run the National Center on Law & Elder Rights through a federal contract with the Administration for Community Living.

This position can be remote anywhere in California. We currently have staff working from Oakland CA, Los Angeles CA, Sacramento, CA. Most of Justice in Aging’s staff are currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Justice in Aging requires COVID-19 vaccination for all staff, with exemptions available in accordance with federal law.

Responsibilities:  

  • Provide support to our Health Director and team members to increase access to health care, home and community-based services (HCBS), long-term care for low-income older adults, and advance organizational objectives, including our new Advancing Equity in Aging Initiative.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings for team members.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, take minutes, and disseminate summaries and action steps.
  • Assist with tracking program activities, preparing reports, and reviewing written materials.
  • Assist in tracking federal and state-based legislation and budget priorities and implementation, such as the California Master Plan for Aging.
  • Administer training webcasts including set-up, technical support, and facilitation using GoToWebcast and Zoom.
  • Support team members in the development of fact sheets, issue briefs, grant proposals, and other written resources.

Requirements:  

  • Any combination of applicable educational/professional credentials and experience that will enable you to perform the above duties successfully.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently across multiple teams and the organization.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with Justice in Aging staff, aging and legal services network members, partners, federal and state agencies, and funders.

Desired:  

  • Experience and/or interest in health policy, advancing health equity, home and community-based services, and long-term care policy, particularly in the areas of Medicaid and Medicare for older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with the legislative and budget process in California and/or federally.
  • Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Zoom and Dropbox.
