Due to COVID-19, staff currently works remotely, with time made for in-person collaboration as needed and when safe to do so. In late 2022, Georgia Audubon's offices will relocate to the new Trees Atlanta headquarters that is currently under construction in the Oakland City neighborhood of southwest Atlanta, along the Atlanta BeltLine's Westside Trail (825 Warner Street). Following the move, Georgia Audubon will continue to follow a flexible hybrid remote/in-person work schedule. 


Position Summary

The Development Manager is a full-time fundraising and communications position responsible for executing annual fundraising goals and activities by securing philanthropic contributions through grants, members, donors, sponsors, and events. The position reports to the Director of Development and engages with all staff, board members, and fundraising volunteers to foster an organizational culture that honors the vital role that members and friends play in advancing the organization’s mission.


Responsibilities

Fundraising, Membership, and Relationship Building

  • Grows membership and donations by recruiting, retaining, and building relationships with current and new members at all levels.
  • Manages and solicits business members and other sponsors for events and other activities.
  • Involves staff, board, and fundraising volunteers in member engagement to meet annual fund campaign goals.
  • Manages direct mail and online fundraising campaigns throughout the year.
  • Assists with development communication pieces, including case statements, annual reports, campaign materials, donor proposals, and updates to donors.
  • Creates and manages a Planned Giving strategy for the organization.
  • Manages a portfolio of sustained to mid-level donors and prospects.
  • Assists the membership team with management of the online virtual Gateway portal, managing content in the portal for members and program participants.
  • Stays up to date with the latest fundraising trends and attends trainings to develop best practices.

Grants

  • Assists the Director of Development and contracted grant writer in securing and stewarding public and private grants through research, relationship building, proposal writing, and reporting.
  • Works with operations and program staff to meet grant proposal and reporting deadlines.
  • Researches ongoing funding opportunities and interfaces with program staff to determine needs and pursue relevant funding.
  • Supports the Director of Finance to manage and track organizational and grant-related budgets, financial reports, grant restrictions, and necessary expense tracking.

Communications & Event Planning

  • In partnership with Community Engagement staff, manages annual Georgia Bird Fest events, directing staff and volunteers.
  • In partnership with the Director of Communications, provides communications to members by sharing stories and impacts that inspire support through the website, social media, newsletter, and other correspondence.
  • Organizes in-person and online member and special events to engage existing and potential members and donors.

Administrative

  • Creates and manages reports and campaigns in the CRM database (Neon CRM) to track donor engagement and to create strong systems of outreach.
  • Tracks success and impact against annual and multi-year fundraising goals.
  • Works with the Membership and Development Associate to create and manage timely donor acknowledgments, annual contribution statements, donor incentive programs, membership renewals, gift memberships, and new member welcome packets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of fundraising or related professional experience and a desire to learn while on the job.
  • Successful grant writing, development communications, and/or donor management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Attention to detail, organized, and creatively proactive.
  • Goal oriented with a commitment to set plans and track progress towards metrics.
  • Both a team player and able to work independently.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Experience organizing events from conception to execution.
  • Experience managing event and fundraising volunteers.
  • Proficiency with CRM databases, especially Neon CRM, a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Google Workspace products.
  • Interest in habitat protection and Georgia’s birds a plus.

Status, Pay, & Benefits

The successful candidate will be hired as a full-time, 40-hour per week exempt employee. The employee is expected to work 40 hours per week, including occasional weekends or weeknights. Starting pay will be in the $45,000-$55,000 range annually, including paid time off.
