The Public Engagement and Campaigns Division of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an Influencer and Celebrity Relations Specialist. The Public Engagement and Campaigns team is the digital mobilization hub for HRW and oversees multiple public engagement initiatives.

The Influencer and Celebrity Relations Specialist will manage and execute the day-to-day influencer and celebrity engagement necessary to advance HRW’s mission.  The Specialist is integral to HRW’s work advancing human rights worldwide by developing, fostering, and managing influencer and celebrity relationships. The Specialist will contribute to the cultivating of relationships with celebrities, influencers, agents, managers, publicists, and celebrity assistants on behalf of HRW. The Specialist will have a deep experience and robust rolodex of A-list talent and partnership activations. This position will work with Director of Campaigns and Public Engagement to design the overall influencer and celebrity strategy. The Specialist also will be expected to oversee data tracking and reporting on celebrity engagements, as well as maintaining our database of contacts and details.

This is a fixed-term, full-time position for two years, with a possibility of extension. The Specialist will ideally be based in New York or Los Angeles and reports to the Deputy Director of Campaigns and Public Engagement based in New York. 

Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are currently operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely if local mandates necessitate. We recognize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement HRW’s Influencer Program, ensuring all influencer activities adhere to the Influencer Program Handbook guidelines and policies;
  2. Identify and recruit high-profile influencers to HRW’s roster of Champions of Change and Creators Society members;
  3. Introduce HRW to influencers across a wide array of sectors (e.g. Film/TV, Music, Sports, Fashion, Media, etc.) to reach potentially untapped supporters and new audiences;
  4. Provide guidance to regional offices and others within HRW on the recruitment and management of Champions of Change and Creators Society Members;
  5. Support all aspects of influencer involvement, from day-to-day correspondence to mobilization during major campaigns or events;
  6. Coordinate activities and events in which influencer support is activated for advocacy campaigns, fundraising, and other initiatives;
  7. Act as the influencer liaison, providing talking points, facilitating photo opportunities, media interviews and social media posts as needed;
  8. Ensure high-profile messages are delivered by Champions of Change to target audiences through various channels (i.e. social media, events, press interviews, content, etc.);
  9. Monitor and track all influencer activity for HRW campaigns and report back to campaign leads on influencer engagement;
  10. Contribute to the development of materials and campaign assets to help educate influencers so that they may help amplify key messaging;
  11. Continuously generate new ideas that capitalize on influencer engagement, including but not limited to high-level convenings, major conferences, intimate donor events, co-hosting salon events, and video conferences, etc.;
  12. Maintain regular contact with influencers and their management teams, ensuring their experience is a positive one; and
  13.  Perform other responsibilities, as required.

Qualifications:

Education: A level of education that when combined with your professional experience will adequately show you have the capability to contribute meaningfully to HRW’s Public Engagement and Campaigns team.

Experience: A minimum of five years of experience working in talent management, partnership, and/or influencer marketing with at least two to four years of experience working at the intersection of entertainment and social impact or a related field.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

  1. A strong understanding of the celebrity influencer, arts and entertainment industries is required.
  2. Track record of being a collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills is required.
  3. Experience in project management and the ability to solve problems creatively are required
  4. Possession of a robust database of contacts across talent representatives, agencies, public relations, and management firms of A-list talent is required.
  5. A proven track record of securing influencers for nonprofit, advocacy, and/or cause marketing initiatives is required.
  6. Demonstrated ability to creatively develop influencer pitches and strategies for various campaigns and events is required.
  7. A solid expertise and interest in popular culture, digital advocacy, and entertainment industry trends is required.
