The Public Information (PI) Manager has primary responsibility for the quality operation of GLAD’s legal information hotline, GLAD Answers, and plays a key role in GLAD’s delivery of legal rights information to the community. The PI Manager supports GLAD Answers initiatives and programs related to the organization’s access to justice and racial and economic justice strategic goals.
GLAD Answers, which is free, confidential, and staffed by volunteers, provides the public with legal information about LGBTQ/HIV legal issues in New England as well as referrals to lawyers and other organizations that can assist them. GLAD Answers plays the vital roles of educating individuals one-on-one about their rights, and helping GLAD identify patterns of discrimination and cases the organization may litigate.
The PI Manager is responsible for supervising the GLAD Answers Program Coordinator and overseeing GLAD Answers-related work performed by the Public Affairs Assistant, as well as growing and maintaining GLAD Answers resources, including the Lawyer Referral Service, Agency Referral Database, ID Project and GLAD Answers print and digital publications. They may also provide legal information through public speaking and workshops, and may represent GLAD in coalitions. The PI Manager reports to the Director of Public Affairs and Education, collaborates with the entire PA&E team and works closely with all GLAD lawyers. This is a hybrid-eligible position.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience, which may include legal work, hotline work or program planning and delivery, including in a supervisory role
- Volunteer management experience and experience supervising employees
- Dedication to and familiarity with LGBTQ/HIV civil rights and an interest in legal rights advocacy
- Ability to assimilate complex information and convey it to lay audiences
- Ability to balance expectations of various stakeholders: volunteers, callers, lawyers, community members
- Project management experience a plus
- Experience working with people in distress a plus
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, though strong equivalent experience will be considered.
Location
This is a hybrid-eligible position with work split between GLAD’s Boston office and remote work from home. GLAD is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
Salary and benefits
Salary for this position is $56,000. Excellent benefits include health, dental, vision, and long-term disability insurance; 401(k) with employer contribution; 3 weeks vacation; supportive and friendly work environment.
