SUMMARY

The California Youth Advocacy Network (CYAN) is an independent agency working under the auspices of Heluna Health, a 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor. CYAN currently employs seven staff. Funding is primarily through competitive grants from sources such as the California Department of Public Health. Since 1997, CYAN has been providing tobacco control services in California and throughout the country. What began as a youth advocacy program has grown into a multi-dimensional organization with focused programs in higher education, the military, and youth. CYAN currently provides technical assistance, training, campaign support and networking opportunities to local health agencies, community-based organizations, colleges/universities, military installations and individuals working toward a smoke/tobacco-free California.

The CYAN College Program Coordinator is responsible for helping to implement all aspects of the agency workplan that focus on college policy implementation, tobacco cessation, young adult advocacy, young adult engagement, material development and research. The College Program Coordinator will provide tailored technical assistance to college campuses and student advocates on smoke/tobacco-free policy organizing, adoption, implementation and compliance.

The College Program Coordinator is supervised by the CYAN Project Director and/or Managing Director.

This is full-time benefitted position is grant-funded through June 2024.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.80 per hour.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The College Program Coordinator responsibilities include:

Advocacy (30%)
• Researching, creating and presenting at local, regional, and/or state meetings and conferences on college policy and student advocacy;
• Coordinating and engaging college student leaders to advocate for system wide and/or statewide smoke/tobacco-free campus policies.

Training and Technical Assistance (60%)
• Providing training and technical assistance to programs and individuals on college smoke/tobacco-free initiatives;
• Supporting colleagues in the coordination of the statewide college Student Advisory Board, including participating in 2-3 annual retreats and bi-monthly web-based meetings;
• Assisting with the coordination of logistics for an annual 1-2 day statewide college conference for 75-100 college student and campus partners;
• Researching, developing, and distributing college-related educational materials;
• Keeping CYAN websites current with updated information and resources.

Evaluation and Reporting (5%)
• Assist with evaluation activities as needed such as training evaluation, organizational assessments, and young adult listening sessions; and
• Completion of bi-annual progress reports.

Other (5%)
• Support and coordinate with other CYAN programs as necessary; and
• Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience
• Four-year college degree (BA or BS) preferred OR equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience to meet the requirements of the job
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of college governance and smoke/tobacco-free policies;
• Experience implementing a public health program and/or facilitating community organizing activities; and
• Basic understanding of public health principles and tobacco control programs in California.

Certificates/Licenses/Clearances
• Background clearance required
• A valid California driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions

Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
• Computer qualifications include proficiency in all MS Office applications;
• Ability to maintain content on a website, and knowledge of social marketing and social networking applications; and
• Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a small staff in a positive environment.

General Office Setting, Indoors Temperature Controlled. The CYAN is currently working remotely; however, this is subject to change at any time.
