The Atlanta Botanical Garden, featuring stunning outdoor display gardens, beautiful woodlands and the Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory that houses rare and endangered plants from tropical rainforest and desert regions, has an immediate opening for a Coordinator of Community Programs. Reporting directly to the Community Outreach Manager, the Coordinator will work within the Programs Department to support the Garden’s commitment to stronger Urban Agriculture and Food Security Programming through intentional partnerships, public events and festivals, adult programs and direct hands-on technical support.

A successful candidate will have some level of experience or an interest in cultivating food in an urban environment and/or a familiarity with community gardening, horticulture, food, community health and program development

The ideal candidate has a passion for interacting with the general public, co-workers and volunteers in a pleasant and courteous manner, some experience with community organizing and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Community Outreach Manager with developing informal educational programs for new & experienced home, community & urban farmers/gardeners
  • Provide administrative support to existing outreach programs such as Plant. Eat. Repeat Gardening Workshops and Aglanta Eats Food Festival
  • Assist and support educational programming, outreach and events such as skill-sharing events, garden events, speaking engagements and fundraising events
  • Facilitates the capacity building and knowledge of gardeners, growers and other individuals through workshops, one-on-one support and/or programming
  • Develop informal educational programming with a focus on underrepresented communities (seniors, limited mobility etc.)
  • Perform educational programming for community-based initiatives, recruiting participants and providing on-going support as needed
  • Work with Community Outreach Manager to develop program budgets, maintaining records of spending and grant reporting as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in and comfort with education, environmental science, horticulture and/or event planning
  • Tuesday-Saturday work schedule. Hours will vary depending on program demands
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs. and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
  • Be prepared to multitask and be willing to adapt to changing situations
  • Experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
