About MVP

MVP is a best-in-class advising platform connecting progressive donors to the most effective and promising grassroots organizations in the country working at the intersection of movements, community organizing, and elections. We aim to increase investment in frontline organizations led by the most impacted communities to increase turnout among the progressive base, build long-term political power, and ultimately to transform our country at the local, state, and national levels. In the 2020 cycle, MVP successfully moved over $120 million to over 600 local groups across the country, focused in the most critical states.

Our Approach:

We are organizers, and the heart of our work is organizing donors through MVP to support local groups in order to build, sustain, and amplify their impact. We work in the service of local groups, and we try to be aware at all times of the power dynamics of being a funder and to be careful about incentivizing actions that could alter an organization’s own priorities; we work hard not to impose on our partners. We are also striving to continuously scrutinize and dismantle the ways we manifest and reproduce white supremacy culture both internally and externally.

We focus on building from our assets and taking a positive approach to growth and change that helps groups and donors to feel comfortable being vulnerable about their areas of improvement. We believe in a non-competitive, non-divisive, whole ecosystem approach; we are always seeking opportunities to support and encourage collaboration among groups and donors.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As the Capacity Building Advisor, you will be using your campaign and social justice organizing, field, and leadership experience to work directly with MVP’s movement partners, coordinating and supporting their needs, with a special focus on coaching and mentorship needs. You will work with groups to identify gaps and find the best coaches, mentors, consultants, and trainings to address them while building and maintaining relationships with providers, intermediaries, and consultants.

As a member of the Capacity Building (CB) team, you will work closely with a dedicated and equity-focused team to ensure MVP’s 700+ movement partners have access to the capacity-building resources they need. MVP’s CB department has four main pillars of support: tailored coaching, training opportunities, cohort learning, and technology access and training. This team thrives on being responsive to the needs of the movement and the people that lead it.

As the Capacity Building Advisor, you will be responsible for:

Responsibilities:

50% - Collaborate with State Advisors to assess and meet the capacity-building needs of MVP’s movement partners

  • In collaboration with State Advisors, assess coaching, training, and other capacity-building needs of the groups MVP funds
  • Triage incoming capacity-building requests from groups and make recommendations on how best to meet their needs
  • Own MVP’s coaching and mentorship programs, and work directly with groups and providers to ensure groups’ needs for coaching and mentorship are met
  • Identify, vet, and negotiate contracts with vendors to provide capacity-building services, and communicate updated offerings to the groups we are supporting
  • Make funding recommendations related to capacity-building and communicate funding decisions to groups as appropriate
  • Collect stories and testimonials related to the impact of MVP’s capacity-building programs

40% - Support quality reporting and clear communication across teams and with groups to maintain good relationships

  • Manage internal and external communications related to capacity-building programs
  • Support the identification and preparation of speakers for donor briefings
  • Ensure internal and external-facing data related to capacity-building programs is up-to-date
  • Manage relationships with bulk providers of capacity-building services
