Job Details

Who We Are:

The Center for Movement Challenges (CFMC), a nonprofit organization serving people living with Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and veterans with movement challenges, is seeking volunteer leaders to join its board of directors.

CFMC was founded in 2013 by people living with Parkinson’s Disease with a simple goal: use vigorous physical exercise to improve the quality of life and slow the disease progression of people living with Parkinson’s. Growing from a small boxing program, CFMC now offers a variety of programs and services from its 4,700 square foot state-of-the-art wellness center in the heart of Sandy Springs.

Board Service:

CFMC Board members are actively involved in organizational governance and are expected to attend at least 6 of 9 board meetings per year, participate on and eventually lead at least one board committee, make a personal financial contribution, raise at least $1,000 annually (inclusive of the personal contribution), and manage at least three donor or community partner relationships. Each Board meeting is held on a Thursday at 6:00 PM with virtual and in-person attendance options.

We also expect that Board members will have a personal connection to Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, or another movement challenge. This does not require that board members have a movement challenge themselves - the connection might be through a family member, close friend, or professional experiences.

Application Process:

Interested candidates are invited to an optional Board Information Session at the Center for Movement Challenges on June 8 at 6:30 PM. This session will provide prospective board candidates additional information about the organization and Board service. We request interested individuals RSVP to the board information session at lexie@successfulnonprofits.com.

The deadline to apply for Board service is Friday June 17th. The application process includes submitting an online application and participating in an interview. This can be completed before or after the optional Information Session. Email lexie@successfulnonprofits.com for the application and to schedule an interview.

Those selected for Board service will be asked to complete a 4-part board orientation program before being appointed to the Board. The board orientation is designed to inform, inspire, and initiate new Board members so that they can be engaged board members from their very first Board meeting.

The orientation seminars will occur at the CFMC Wellness Center and are outlined below.

  • CFMC Board Governance: Last week of June
  • CFMC Programs: Second week of July
  • CFMC Fundraising: Fourth week of July
  • CFMC Finances: Second week of August

We will strive to offer the orientation sessions at time convenient for those selected for the board.
