The Portfolio Investing team’s focus is to identify and support a portfolio of organizations demonstrating outstanding performance in four key areas: impact, equity and proximity, leadership, and sustainability. Our role is to identify the most promising social entrepreneurs and organizations for investment, ensure that we are providing them with excellent capacity building support, and develop and continually refine a set of tools and processes that support our grantees and the portfolio team in capturing their progress and our value add. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position will be a key member of the education team, and will focus on a range of critical activities related to overall operations of the team, project management, constituent engagement in investment selection, and writing and communications for the team. The manager will serve as the project manager for the Widespread Impact Community of Practice, which is part of our Equitable Education Recovery Initiative. Through the Widespread Impact Community of Practice, we will support larger organizations to enact widespread impact strategies through which they are attempting to support the broad adoption of evidence-based effective practices through tools, training and/or technical assistance. The manager will also have primary responsibility for managing the engagement of constituents in our investment selection process, including serving as the main point of contact for our Parent Advisory Council, training parents in our investment selection processes, and supporting parents as they perform their duties related to investment selection. This will start with the involvement of parents in the selection process for our Equitable Education Recovery Initiative (EERI) cohort in Fall/Winter 2021-2022. The manager will also have responsibility for drafting op-eds, blog posts, and similar pieces of writing on other topics relevant to the activities of the Education team. The Manager reports to New Profit Managing Partner Shruti Sehra.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Project Management for Widespread Impact Community of Practice (50%)
    • Serve as primary project manager for the Widespread Impact Community of Practice
    • Serve as primary point of contact for participating organizations in the Widespread Impact Community of Practice and manage overall communications with members of the Widespread Impact Community of Practice
    • Support the design of programming for Widespread Impact Community of Practice
  • Communications and Thought Leadership (20%)
    • Draft thought leadership pieces on key learnings and insights related to the Education team’s three areas of focus: Parent Power, Technology, and Wellbeing/Whole Learner
    • Draft blog posts, op-eds, and other thought leadership pieces on topics relevant to the Education team as needed, working in close collaboration with the Managing Partner and other members of the Education team
  • Overall Team Management (15%)
    • Work with Associate Partner to manage overall strategy and operations of the Education team
    • Determine appropriate cadence of team meetings, set agendas for team meetings, and lead team meetings
  • Overseeing Constituent Engagement in Investment Selection (15%) 
    • Holds primary responsibility for managing the engagement of the Education team’s Parent Advisory Council in our investment selection processes
    • Communicates with members of Parent Advisory Council, trains PAC members as needed on investment selection activities, and serves as primary point of contact for questions from the PAC
    • Works with Managing Partner to identify potential new members of the Parent Advisory Council as needed
    • Strategizes with the Managing Partner on potential new ways of engaging the Parent Advisory Council (including the possibility of including them in programming and deal support beyond investment selection)
    • Ultimately will expand constituent engagement to include young people and possibly educators in addition to parents

  • Demonstrated project management experience; highly organized and detail-oriented Adaptable and able to manage multiple, changing priorities and stakeholders 
  • Ability and willingness to switch between work that requires high level strategic thinking, and work that is more focused on logistics, operations, and execution 

STARTING SALARY: $80,000
