The Executive Director is the key management leader of the organization. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, membership, and strategic plan. Other key duties include fundraising (exhibit/sponsorship), meeting planning, marketing, membership recruitment/retention and community outreach. The position reports directly to the President of Association Management Executives, Inc., and the Board of Directors of each organization.

1)        Board Governance:  Works with board to fulfill the organization mission.

  • Responsible for leading in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Responsible for becoming familiar with the organizations Bylaws, Leadership Structure and Membership requirement.

2)        Financial Performance and Viability:   Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

  • Responsible for membership dues billing, meeting registration and exhibit/sponsorship income and/or supervising support staff with these tasks to support the fiscal health of the organization(s).
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the organization(s) to include working with the Board on a proposed annual budget and submitting financial reports as requested, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

3)        Job Responsibilities

  • Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions.
  • Work with all committee chairs to help execute committee tasks/missions.
  • Increase the overall visibility of the organization (website, social media, etc.).
  • Supervise, collaborate with other organization staff.
  • Be proficient in using the Membership Database
  • Be proficient in using software and apps which include but are not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CANVA, Wufoo, Doodle, Survey Monkey, Zoom, and our conference App – Results at Hand.
  • Planning and operation of annual budget.
  • Oversee membership recruitment and retention efforts
  • Oversee member communication (newsletters, email blasts, etc.)
  • Plan and execute all conferences and educational activities of the organization(s).
  • Serve as a spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the general public.
  • Oversee collection of membership dues and other sources of non-dues revenue.
  • Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
  • Oversee organization Board and committee meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

The job will overlap for approximately 8 months with the current Executive Director who is retiring at the end of 2022. This allows for detailed training and ample time for transition. The first 8 months would look like: 

ORGANIZATION #1

1. Zooms with current Executive Director to learn about:

  • Membership
  • The Board
  • The Annual Meeting
  • Other educational conferences
  • Committees
  • Communications
  • All other things ASMS

2. Travel to Annual Meeting (May 26-29, Orlando, FL)

3. Work with current Executive Director and eventually take the lead on the November Fundamentals Conference (October 30 – November 6)

4. Transition of the database (or maybe just have two databases at a point) to Wild Apricot

5. Deep dive into membership and strong recruitment efforts

6. Deep dive into social media campaigns and getting members to follow

7. Deep dive into getting more non-dues revenue through a revamping of current exhibit prospectus and levels and working with leadership (Appoint a Commercial Support Chair) to identify companies/contacts for outreach.

ASSOCIATION MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVES, INC. 

  • Meetings/Zooms with all staff to get better ideas of their roles.
  • Work with staff on various projects and meetings
  • Travel to meetings if possible

Although headquarters are in Metro Atlanta, Georgia, the position is not limited to candidates who are local since the position is 100% remote. We welcome candidates nation wide.
