Job Description: Director of Marketing and Communications 

Reports To: Vice President/Chief Development and Marketing Officer 

Status: Exempt 

SUMMARY 

Responsible for planning, development and implementation of all of the Piedmont Park Conservancy's marketing strategies, communications, sponsorship initiatives and public relations activities, both external and internal. Oversees development and implementation of support materials in the area of marketing, communications, sponsorships and public relations. Directs the efforts of the marketing, communications, sponsorship and public relations staff and coordinates at the strategic and tactical levels with the other functions of PPC. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Responsible for a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program that will enhance the PPC’s reputation and position within the marketplace 
  • Direct PPC's desired brand position, assure consistent communication of position throughout the organization, and assure communication of position to all constituencies, both internal and external. 
  • Steer editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all PPC's printed collateral and digital communications. 
  • Lead media outreach for PPC and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests. 
  • Act as PPC's spokesperson with the media. 
  • Manage brand elements of PPC materials (logo, letterhead, message guidelines, etc.) 
  • Develop sponsorship decks and strategy for corporate support of PPC programs and assets, in coordination with Development leadership 
  • Direct PPC’s market research, marketing analytics and research data applications. 
  • Ensure that evaluation systems are in place related to these goals and objectives and report progress to the Vice President/Chief Development and Marketing Officer and Board. 
  • Develop short and long-term plans and budgets for marketing/communications. 
  • Maintain a climate that attracts, retains and motivates personnel, paid and volunteer 

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in marketing and communications, preferably in the nonprofit sector. 
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations preferred. Graduate degree in a related field is desirable. 
  • Required past experience using digital content tools including website management, social media management platforms, email marketing and CRMs.  
  • Experience in direct response/acquisition marketing is desired. 
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications, sponsorships and public relations activities. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time. 
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills. 
  • Experience managing budgets and employees. 
  • Demonstrated success writing press releases, making presentations, preparing sponsorship decks and negotiating with media. 
  • Experience overseeing the brand assets and the production of collateral and digital media.  
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong oral and written communications skills. 
  • Experience working with volunteers is desirable. 
  • Must be able to perform some duties during non-traditional work hours (evenings and weekends) and limited travel as normal part of job responsibilities.
