Progress Georgia is seeking highly motivated current third or fourth year college students, recent graduates or graduate students with a passion for combating mis- and disinformation and uplifting progressive values through marketing, storytelling, art and graphic design. Ideal candidates have a strong academic background in their field of study, research experience and an interest in developing accessible, authentic communications strategies to best connect with Georgia’s most impacted communities.

Progress Georgia will be accepting applications from January 24, 2022 through February 11, 2022. Offers will be made starting February 21, 2022. The fellowship will start March 1, 2022.

Progress Georgia works to uplift the values and voices of the progressive movement across Georgia by elevating the issues that matter most to our communities. We use cutting-edge media strategies across a variety of traditional and new media platforms to increase awareness about Georgia's progressive priorities. 
 

Fellowship Description:
Progress Georgia is hosting a 9-month fellowship program for emerging communications professionals interested in developing their skill sets in political messaging, media, research, communication and design. 

Duration: March 1, 2022 - December 31, 2022

Basic Qualifications:

  • Have or are pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree (Graduation date in 2022 or 2023 accepted) in political science, journalism/media, communications, marketing or any other communications related field 
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Research experience
  • A political junkie 
  • A creative thinker and resourceful problem solver

 

We are seeking someone that:

  • is detail-oriented specifically with projects that may require rapid response or quick turnaround;
  • has a unique ability to make complex ideas and policies into relatable and understandable concepts that are accessible to the general public;  
  • express enthusiasm around developing new content and find ways to captivate an audience with compelling stories; 
  • is naturally inquisitive and has an ability to identify issues that may benefit from deeper investigation and insight;
  • can build genuine relationships and create welcoming spaces that develop trust with people of many backgrounds and experiences.

Responsibilities:

During the 9 months of direct practice, fellows will gain meaningful experience developing long-lasting communications strategy with deep impact. Fellows will learn how to research and analyze information and how to clearly and cogently communicate complex topics through writing, speaking and design. 

  • Work with advocacy groups to capture a diverse range of stories across multiple issues and topics
  • Monitor media stories 
  • Assist in crafting stories for social media 
  • Create a database for capturing stories 
  • Build relationships and maintain contact with storytellers 
  • Assist with gathering research for our partner resource bank
  • Assist with fact checking and vetting of stories and storytellers
  • Regularly attend our partners’ virtual and in-person events to engage with community members and source potential stories 
  • Conduct insightful interviews with storytellers and advocates to create stories and narratives of deep impact
  • Build relationships with community members, community leaders, elected officials, professionals and other public service professionals to source potential storytellers and advocates
     

Compensation and Time Commitment: 

  • $2,000 per month stipend
  • 25 hours per week
