Job Details
SUMMARY:
A CASA volunteer is appointed by the court to advocate for children who come into the court system primarily as a result of abuse or neglect. A CASA volunteer advocates for the best interests of the child to whom they are assigned. They perform an independent investigation and then report back to the judge with their findings through written reports. They visit with their child(ren) on a regular basis. They interview and collaborate with the parents, teachers, and social workers. A CASA becomes consistent support for the child throughout their time in foster care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Be willing to report child abuse if suspected and/or witnessed
- Understand and follow all CASA policies.
- Maintain consistent monthly contact with assigned CASA child(ren).
- Maintain consistent monthly (or more often when necessary) contact with CASA Supervisor.
- Provide the Advocacy Coordinator with court reports in a timely manner as requested by the Advocacy Coordinator prior to each hearing.
- Meet report deadlines and requirements.
- To attend conferences and/or court hearings regarding CASA child(ren).
- Provide a monthly summary and record of hours spent on CASA cases to the Advocacy Coordinator.
- Maintain appropriate case notes.
- Attend 40 hours of initial training and12 hours of ongoing training annually.
- Have professional conduct, be respectful, tactful, and patient while performing your duties as a CASA volunteer, keeping in mind that you are acting under the direct authority of the Juvenile Court as well as the CASA program.
- Adhere to the confidentiality policy of the organization and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with all community service providers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be 21 years of age.
- Make a minimum 18-month commitment to the program.
- Respect and relate to people from various backgrounds in a variety of settings.
- Effective verbal and written communicator with all persons in a culturally competent manner.
- Able to gather and accurately record factual information.
- Be objective, open-minded, and flexible.
- Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with all community service providers.
- Provide one’s own transportation. Must have a valid Driver’s license and current insurance.
- Pass a security check including a national criminal database check, child abuse index registry check, social security number verification
- Provide four [4] Letters of Recommendation.
