The Manager of Engagement supports the efforts of the Executive Director in the mission and fundraising activities of Project Chimps by designing, managing, and implementing a strategy that encompasses communications, community engagement, events, and marketing to attract and retain donors and supporters, and increase public awareness of Project Chimps. This position is both creative and strategic, with an emphasis on creativity. The Manager of Engagement reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Manager of Philanthropy, and other leadership personnel. This position supervises the Digital Content Coordinator, Events Coordinator, and others as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and contribute to a positive and professional organizational culture that promotes Project Chimps’ values, mission, and vision
  • Build and execute a media and outreach strategy that includes social media, traditional media, and direct community outreach
  • Designs and publishes branded content, both digital and written materials, through diverse mediums
  • Set and maintained creative directions and goals for company projects and initiatives
  • Creates and edits marketing copy to ensure accurate clarity and compliance
  • Conduct research to understand donor behavior and develop marketing campaigns accordingly
  • Use and oversee daily creative content across multiple social media platforms
  • Track, analyze, and report on statistical trends implements, develops and/or revises standard operating procedures or other reports; conducts or coordinates training
  • Foster relationships with event attendees and social media audience members, identify donor prospects to coordinate with the development team
  • Work closely with the development team to develop media & outreach campaigns to ensure fundraising goals are achieved
  • Oversee and monitor and moderate Project Chimps’ social media accounts, engaging positively with followers
  • Ensure the website is updated with new content and all pages stay current, attractive, and user-friendly
  • Oversee the production of the monthly e-newsletter, merchandise e-mailers, chimp sponsorship e-updates, event promotions, event reminders, event follow-ups, and analyze impacts of each in order to adjust future strategies.
  • Coordinate press visits, press releases, media alerts, and remote media interviews; build relationships with media outlets
  • Coordinate with outreach volunteers to deliver community activities, such as speaking engagements with civic groups and schools, and tabling at public events as well as virtual appearances nation-wide
  • Collaborating with the Event Coordinator, creates and implements the overall Community Engagement and Event Cultivation strategy, offering new and innovative ideas for engaging attendees while maintaining proven strategies to engage donors in a meaningful experience. These strategies should include various opportunities for donor engagement, post-engagement, and evaluation of donor data and trends to measure outcomes.
  • Manage communication and event technology, including selection and implementation of technology solutions improving in-person and virtual event experience for attendees, in collaboration with other departments as appropriate.
  • Develop promotional strategies for Giving Tuesday, Giving Day for Apes, Year-end Giving, Chimp Sponsorships, and other high-level fundraising campaigns that support the mission
  • Serve as spokesperson for the organization as needed
  • Daily use of social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), email, phone and face to face meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in public outreach, fund raising and social media management.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience supervising a team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**

  • Understanding of chimpanzee behavior and the need for chimpanzee sanctuaries preferred
  • Advanced skills in multiple social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Advanced skills with the following or similar: Canva, Microsoft PowerPoint, MailChimp, and WordPress
  • Advanced knowledge in SEO preferred
  • Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills, including public speaking
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks involving multiple internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to think strategically, be flexible, and use good judgement
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds, education, and experience
  • Because effective communication is essential to maintain safe working conditions and respond effectively to emergencies, the ability to speak, write, and understand English is required

Physical Requirements:

The following physical requirements are considered to be essential for this position: the ability to stand, walk, run in the face of danger, and climb stairs, 20/20 binocular vision and peripheral vision with or without corrective lenses, the ability to hear with or without hearing aids, the ability to speak with or without assistive devices. The employee must also meet medical screening and vaccination requirements.
