Childspring International is a global nonprofit based in Atlanta, GA that provides life-changing surgeries for children from developing countries and, as a result, transforms communities. In 2019, Childspring provided 694 surgeries in countries around the world including Haiti, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, India, and Sierra Leone, among others, and has worked in 50 countries since its inception. The Program Director supports the work of Childspring International through a social work model of intervention that is rooted in accompaniment, trust, and social justice. The Program Director:

  • Engages children, families, communities, and stakeholders across areas of cultural and linguistic difference to build relationships of mutual trust and respect
  • Supports the assessment of children’s social, environmental, medical, and psychosocial wellbeing in the context of a medical surgery, and explores avenues for intervention with the support of the program team
  • Accompanies children, families, host families, and others through the process of receiving treatment
  • Evaluates and tracks progress toward mutually agreed upon goals and desired outcomes

The primary responsibility of the Program Director is to oversee, manage, and set the strategic direction for the Program Department, which can include a wide-ranging set of tasks that include needs assessment, program development, budgeting, strategic planning, case management, stakeholder communication, and program evaluation.

The Program Director oversees the efforts of Childspring International in supporting children and their families through complex medical surgeries worldwide. The Program Director:

  • Oversees and is responsible for all medical cases
  • Cultivates, sustains, and expands international partnerships and projects
  • Cultivates, sustains, and expands US hospital and provider network
  • Supports host family program and US travel
  • Manages Program Database and other related program data collection for the purposes of budget tracking, documentation of in-kind support, and program evaluation
  • Supports development and fundraising efforts through a variety of activities including:
  • Supporting events preparation, including the annual Gala
  • Maintaining the Childspring blog, supporting social media efforts. and other outreach efforts
  • Supporting grant application efforts and other solicitations for funding support.
  • Supervises the Program Coordinator and Program Case Worker Interns
  • Reports to the Executive Director of Childspring International
  • Serves as primary contact and staff responsible for supporting the efforts of the board-appointed Childspring International Medical Committee, which reviews US medical cases and serves as the board governance structure for all program activities

The Program Director will also oversee the management of a caseload of children with treatable medical conditions. In addition, the Program Director maintains relationships with Childspring’s international partners and points of contact. The Program Director also handles surgery payments, tracks data and progress, arranges child transportation and logistics, engages with our medical committee, and directly supports host families in the United States. The Program Director may share these responsibilities with the Program Coordinator and Case Worker Interns as appropriate.

Qualifications and Skills

Requirements:

  • BA/BS undergraduate degree, Masters or PhD Preferred. Background in social work, counseling, nonprofit management, international development, public health, medicine, or related field preferred.

  • Commitment to working in a global context with particular attention to navigating cultural and linguistic differences in the context of managing programs and individual cases for children seeking surgery
  • Passion for mission: strong heart-felt connection to serve and support the social, emotional and physical well-being of children from low- and middle-income countries
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity to set the direction of the Program Department
  • Experience supervising others and managing multiple projects at once
  • Ability to assess the complex social, behavioral, and medical histories of children living with surgically treatable conditions, and ability to recommend avenues for treatment
  • Experience with program development, planning, and evaluation
  • Strong organizational skills with capacity to use a variety of technologies for program administration
  • Strong communicator and ability to use compassion, empathy, and social skills to navigate complex and culturally and linguistically diverse contexts
  • Ability to work remotely. Though the position is primarily in-person at the offices located in Midtown Atlanta, it is possible substantial portions of the work can be done remotely or may be required to be conducted remotely as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic
  • Flexible work schedule with ability to meet virtually during the day and in evenings
  • Spanish, Arabic, and/or French/Haitian Creole language skills a plus
  • Experience living or working abroad or in global contexts a plus

This is a full-time opportunity working on-site and remotely in the offices of Childspring International located in Midtown, Atlanta. Estimated < 10% travel for medical and host family visits in Metro Atlanta, occasional visits to other treatment cities as necessary; potential for international travel to partner/project sites.
